The short answer

SE Ranking is the value pick among the big SEO suites: daily rank tracking, generous limits and a no-card trial, from US$129 a month [1]. People still leave it, or never buy it, for specific reasons, and this guide matches each reason to the alternative that fixes it. Choose Ahrefs for backlink depth, Semrush for the widest toolkit and a free plan, Moz Pro for a gentler price on a few sites, Mangools for a quick refund and PayPal, SpyFu for paid search history, and Ubersuggest for a single website on a small budget. If price is your only complaint, SE Ranking is hard to beat.

We started from why people leave. SE Ranking's own roundup of G2 reviews says the drawbacks users tag most are gaps in specific features and price, and Trustpilot's one-star reviews add broken rank tracking after Google changes, plan migrations and refused refunds. Each alternative below answers at least one of those complaints. None answers all. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page, read on 12 October 2026, and every total is our arithmetic.

Alternative Entry price, USD Best reason to switch
Ahrefs US$129/mo (Lite) Largest backlink index
Semrush US$139/mo (SEO) Widest toolkit, free plan
Moz Pro US$99/mo (Standard) Fewer sites, lower entry
SpyFu from US$33/mo Paid search history, 30-day guarantee
Mangools euro pricing 48-hour refund, PayPal
Ubersuggest euro pricing One small site

Name your reason first

Name your reason for leaving before comparing tools. Most teams need one missing piece, not a whole new suite.

Why link builders switch

SE Ranking indexes 2.7 trillion backlinks by its own count, but its backlink tables show a sample capped by plan, for example 10,000 analysed backlinks. Link builders who audit large competitor profiles hit that cap quickly. It is the one area where a rival is clearly stronger. Ahrefs runs its own crawler and says its web index holds 170T pages and tracks 41.9B keywords. Its Site Explorer and Keywords Explorer are the standard tools for link prospecting and gap analysis, and for agencies whose main service is link building, the depth difference shows up in every competitor audit.

Price, limits and the catch

Ahrefs Lite costs US$129 a month, the same as SE Ranking Core, or US$1,290 a year billed annually [2]. Lite tracks 750 keywords, updated weekly, while SE Ranking Core tracks 2,000 daily for the same monthly price. Extra Ahrefs users cost US$40 a month on Lite. Lite allows 5 unverified projects, Standard 20 and Advanced 50, with unlimited projects for sites you verify. If your own sites are most of the work, that rule stretches each Ahrefs plan further than it first appears.

The catch is flexibility. Ahrefs says it never runs discounts and points newcomers to its free tier for their own sites rather than to a trial. Rank tracking updates weekly on every plan, so if daily positions matter to your clients, moving to Ahrefs means either accepting weekly data or paying for a daily tracking add-on. Many teams keep SE Ranking for tracking and buy Ahrefs only for links. It works. Ahrefs suits link builders, content teams that research competitors' top pages, and agencies that sell link audits. Our Ahrefs vs SE Ranking comparison goes deeper.

⚠️
Watch out
Ahrefs tracks weekly, no trial

Ahrefs has no trial, never runs discounts and updates rank tracking weekly on every plan.

Semrush, for one platform that does everything

SE Ranking covers SEO, local, content and AI tracking, and pushes social media into a separate product, Planable. Teams that also want advertising research, market data and PR tools in one login look at Semrush. Its plans combine SEO and AI visibility, with specialist toolkits for local, content, social, advertising and PR sold on top. It has the broadest feature set of the three big suites, the largest ecosystem of training and third-party integrations, and a free plan that tracks 10 keywords and audits 100 pages. That free plan also suits occasional users.

The price is the issue. Semrush's SEO plan costs US$139 a month, or US$117.33 a month billed annually, for 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily [3]. SE Ranking Core costs US$10 a month less for 10 projects and 2,000 keywords. That is about 28 cents per tracked keyword at Semrush against under 7 cents at SE Ranking, a 4.3-fold gap. Extra users start at US$45 a month and toolkits are sold separately. The terms are tighter too. Month-to-month plans are not refunded, and cancellation needs a form plus a confirmation link valid for 24 hours. Since April 2026 Semrush has been part of Adobe. Our SE Ranking vs Semrush comparison covers the rest.

Moz Pro, for a few sites and a smaller bill

SE Ranking's Core plan is sized for ten projects, so a consultant with three sites pays for capacity they do not use. Moz Pro prices a smaller bundle. Standard costs US$99 a month, or US$79 a month paid yearly, with 1 user, 3 tracked sites and 300 tracked keywords [4], and Moz states the yearly price as $950 billed for your first year. Medium costs US$179 a month with 2 users, 10 sites and 1,500 keywords. Moz also offers a free trial, which makes it one of the easier rivals to test before money moves.

Standard includes an AI Visibility Dashboard with 150 tracked prompts across four AI models, GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, checked weekly, plus 2 AI content briefs a month; Medium raises briefs to 10. SE Ranking Core tracks 100 prompts daily across five engines: fewer prompts, but checked seven times as often. The catch is the rate. At US$99 for 300 keywords, Moz costs about 33 cents per tracked keyword, five times SE Ranking Core's rate. Moz is a fit when its Domain Authority metric matters to your clients, or when the small Standard plan is all you need.

Mangools, for a refund window, PayPal and an API

Mangools bundles keyword research, SERP analysis, rank tracking, backlinks and site analysis, with API and MCP included on every plan. Keyword research runs from 100 requests a day on Basic to 1,200 on Agency, and tracked keywords from 200 to 1,500. Rank tracking updates weekly on Basic and Premium and daily on Agency. Basic allows no extra seats; Premium allows three and Agency five. Prices are served in euros, so we do not quote them. For a solo consultant who tracks a few hundred keywords weekly and wants AI assistants connected, that is a lighter, cheaper setup than a full suite.

Two practical differences decide it for some buyers. The first is the refund. Mangools promises: "If you are not satisfied we will issue a full refund within 48 hours of your payment." That does not apply to two consecutive subscriptions, and 48 hours is short, but SE Ranking offers no refund at all. The second is PayPal. SE Ranking stopped accepting it when it moved billing to Stripe, while Mangools supports PayPal payments through the Paddle payment provider. Freelancers who run their business through PayPal may find that reason enough to switch for a small project.

Toolkit tip
Add a tool, don't switch

SE Ranking Core plus Ahrefs Lite costs US$258 a month, less than Semrush Pro+ at US$299, and keeps daily tracking alongside Ahrefs' link data.

SpyFu, for paid search research

SE Ranking's Competitive Research includes paid keywords, ad copy and ad history back to 2020. Teams that spend most of their time on Google Ads research want longer history and more ad data, which is SpyFu's specialty. Membership starts at US$33 a month with unlimited data and downloads, SpyFu claims 18+ years of historical data, and it offers a 30-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. It has also added an AI-powered site audit that scans for 100+ technical and on-page issues and drafts fixes you can review and publish, plus SpyFu GPT, which feeds its data into ChatGPT.

Those features narrow the gap with the suites, but SpyFu is still built around competitor keywords and ads. Its rank tracking, audits and local tools are thinner than SE Ranking's, and its data claims, such as 20 times more paid keywords than Semrush and Ahrefs, are its own. Pair it with an SEO tool rather than replacing one. Rank tracking and local SEO remain SE Ranking's ground, and SpyFu works best as a complement to a suite rather than a replacement for it.

Ubersuggest, for one small website

An owner tracking one site and a few dozen keywords may not need any suite at US$129. Ubersuggest's Individual plan covers one project, 125 tracked keywords and 1,000 page scans per project, and its yearly plans run a promotion of 5 months free. Prices are served in euros. It adds ChatGPT and Gemini data to keyword research on every plan, and Google AI Overview data on Enterprise. AI prompt checks run monthly on Individual, biweekly on Business and weekly on Enterprise, against daily on SE Ranking, so Ubersuggest suits owners who want a rough monthly read, not daily monitoring.

Its limits are small, though. Business covers 7 projects and 150 tracked keywords each. It suits beginners and single-site owners, and agencies outgrow it quickly. Its data is not in the same class as the three big suites, and a consultant who adds an eighth client on Business has already run out of projects. The low entry price tends to last only as long as the client list stays short. For a single site, that may be forever. For an agency, it rarely is.

⚠️
Watch out
Semrush seats add up

Semrush charges from US$45 a month per extra user, and specialist toolkits are sold separately on top of the SEO plans.

Refunds, seats and white label across the field

If refunds are the reason

SE Ranking's terms leave little room: "Payments are non-refundable, except in cases where the service wasn’t delivered as promised" [1]. If that is why you are leaving, the rivals differ sharply in how much protection they give, so plan your test around their windows:

Seats and white label

SE Ranking Core includes one seat, with extras from US$16. Moz Medium includes 2 users, Ubersuggest Business 2 users and Enterprise 5, and Mangools Premium allows 3 extra seats, while Semrush charges from US$45 per extra user. For a team of three on a budget, check seats before features. White label is the other agency sticking point. SE Ranking's comes only with the Agency Pack, which can only be added to an annual subscription. Semrush sells branded reports per report, at US$10 or US$20 a month each, with no annual lock. An agency testing a new service line may prefer that, even though Semrush offers no branded client login.

Price per tracked keyword, and running two tools

Plan Monthly price Keywords tracked Cost per keyword per month
SE Ranking Growth US$279 5,000 daily 5.6 cents
SE Ranking Core US$129 2,000 daily 6.5 cents
Moz Pro Medium US$179 1,500 11.9 cents
Ahrefs Lite US$129 750 weekly 17.2 cents
Semrush SEO US$139 500 daily 27.8 cents
Moz Pro Standard US$99 300 33.0 cents

Cost per keyword is our arithmetic from each vendor's monthly price and tracked-keyword limit. The table rewards volume: the more keywords you need checked every day, the stronger SE Ranking's case becomes. That is why many teams keep SE Ranking for tracking and reporting and add a second tool for one job instead of switching. SE Ranking Core plus Ahrefs Lite costs US$258 a month, less than Semrush Pro+ at US$299, and that pairing gives daily tracking of 2,000 keywords plus Ahrefs' link data. SpyFu at US$33 is the cheapest add-on for paid search.

Before you leave SE Ranking

What you would give up

Leaving means losing daily tracking of 2,000 keywords for US$129, three included Local Marketing locations, 100 daily AI prompts, and API credits and MCP on every plan. You also lose a trial you cannot be billed for. No alternative here matches all of those at the same price. Two reasons for leaving deserve a second look. Several Trustpilot reviewers left after a move from an older plan to a pricier one. Before leaving, check whether your setup fits the new rules: since October 2024 a keyword counts once per search engine, so trimming duplicate engines or devices can bring you back under the limit without switching tools.

The other is rank tracking that broke for days after Google changes, as Trustpilot reviewers describe. Every tracker that scrapes Google faced the same changes. Switching guarantees nothing. Test any replacement against Google results during a trial, using an incognito window and the same location, as SE Ranking's own help center recommends. If cost is the real complaint, three changes help, and a fourth applies to developers:

Ratings, our scores and moving your data

On Trustpilot, SE Ranking rates far better than Semrush, whose score there is low; on G2 both do well, with SE Ranking slightly ahead. Ratings measure satisfaction, not fit, so use them to spot billing and support risks rather than to choose. Among the SEO suites we have scored, SE Ranking leads, ahead of Semrush and Ahrefs, and the gap comes mostly from value for money and ease of use. On capability, Ahrefs scores higher. If you do leave, export rankings, reports and keyword lists first. After a plan expires, projects stay stored for 60 days and are then deleted. If you come back later, SE Ranking can import history from Semrush, Ahrefs, AccuRanker, AgencyAnalytics and Serpstat.

For breadth, try Semrush's free plan before paying for toolkits and seats. For a small budget, a few sites or a quick refund, look at Moz Pro, Mangools or SpyFu, and for a single small website, Ubersuggest. For everything else, SE Ranking is still the best value.
