The verdict, in one line

SE Ranking is an SEO platform for agencies and in-house marketing teams that puts rank tracking, keyword and competitor research, backlinks, site audits, content tools, local SEO and reporting in one account. It gives more for the money than the two best-known SEO suites. Core costs the same US$129 a month as Ahrefs Lite, yet it tracks 2,000 keywords every day and starts with a 14-day trial that needs no card [1]. The trade-offs are real, though. The data indexes are smaller, several add-ons sell only on annual billing, and payments are not refunded. For most teams that track rankings for a living, it is the value pick.

The product started in 2013 as a single tool, the Rank Tracker, and grew into a full suite. Its about page now claims more than a million users. The copyright line reads SER Acquisition Inc., the company says it is backed by Camber Partners, and it keeps hubs in Kyiv, Wroclaw and Warsaw. So it is built largely in Eastern Europe and sold from the US. Two sister products sit beside it: SE Visible for brand tracking in AI answers, and Planable for social media.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

SE Ranking fits agencies and in-house teams that need rank tracking, research, audits and client reports from one provider. It suits budgets where Semrush or Ahrefs feel heavy, and teams that track many keywords every day. Small businesses fit too. The local locations included in every plan and the guided Marketing Plan lower the bar for owners without an SEO background, and a single shop will probably never need more than the included locations. Agencies get the most out of it once they add the Agency Pack, which brings white label, client seats and scheduled reports with AI summaries to the same account.

Where it is the wrong fit has to do with the job, not the size of the team. If backlink depth is the work, Ahrefs' index is far larger. If you want a free plan for occasional checks, a purchase backed by a refund, or PayPal billing, SE Ranking offers none of the three. And if you track the same keywords in many cities, price the per-engine keyword count before you buy, because that count alone can push you from Core into Growth. Test that first.

💡
Toolkit tip
Count keywords per engine

A keyword counts once for every search engine, region and location it is tracked in. Multiply before you choose Core.

What you pay: plans, annual billing and seats

Two plans have public prices and the third is quoted. Each is sold per account, not per user, with a fixed number of manager seats included [1]:

Plan Monthly billing Annual billing Projects Keywords tracked daily Manager seats
Core US$129 a month US$103.20 a month 10 2,000 1
Growth US$279 a month US$223.20 a month 30 5,000 3
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Custom Up to five by default

Core or Growth

Core covers 10 projects, 2,000 keywords and 100 AI prompts tracked daily, AI competitive research on 5 domains, 250,000 audit pages a month and 25,000 API credits with MCP access. Keyword, competitor and backlink research reports are unlimited. The weak point is history. Core keeps six months of historical data in research, which is short for year-over-year client reports. Growth raises the limits to 30 projects, 5,000 keywords, 250 prompts, 15 AI research domains and 2 million audit pages a month, and it adds history across the project lifetime, guest links, page changes monitoring and dedicated support. At 2.16 times the price of Core, it gives 2.5 times the keywords and three times the projects.

Annual billing, seats and Enterprise

Paying yearly cuts 20%. That means US$1,238.40 for Core and US$2,678.40 for Growth, charged upfront once a year, saving US$309.60 and US$669.60 against twelve monthly payments. Extra seats are cheap. The pricing page lists them from US$16, while the Users FAQ says US$20 a month per user; the two figures probably reflect annual and monthly billing, but no page says so. Either is low next to rivals that charge US$40 or more per extra user. Enterprise is a custom platform with custom limits, flexible terms and full API access, and there is no price for it anywhere on the site. Ask for the limits in writing.

The trial, and no free plan

The trial lasts 14 days and asks for no credit card. It includes 10 projects, 750 keywords tracked daily, 20 AI prompts a day and AI research on 3 domains, and the help center adds 100,000 API credits plus access to the Agency Pack and AI Search. It does not turn into a paid subscription on its own, so nobody is charged when it ends [2]. Some things stay locked: MCP access, keyword database expansion, extra client seats and extra limit purchases are not available on the trial, and after 14 days the account goes inactive until you pay. There is no free tier, only single-check free tools on the website.

⚠️
Watch out
The trial is your refund window

Payments are non-refundable unless the service was not delivered as promised, and a downgrade only credits your Stripe account. Test everything within the 14 days.

The keyword count that changes the real price

This is the detail that decides which plan you need. Since the October 2024 plans, "a keyword counts once for every search engine it is tracked in" [3], and every extra region, location and project counts separately as well. So 500 keywords tracked on Google desktop and Google mobile in two cities use all 2,000 of Core's slots, not 500. Run the trial with your real engines and locations, then read the counter before you pick a plan.

When you do hit the ceiling, you can add keywords without upgrading. The pricing page starts them at US$22.40 on Core and US$32 on Growth, and the help center sells them in steps of 100 keywords on Core and 500 on Growth, on a billing cycle separate from the plan. The same counting rule catches long-time customers. Legacy plans were in use until the October 2024 update, and some users can switch to a new plan at the same price to get the tool and its future updates. Because the new plans count each engine separately, though, the same tracking setup can need a bigger plan.

Add-ons agencies end up paying for

Add-ons sit on the same pricing page as the plans, and the bigger packages hide inside drop-down menus, so open them before you choose. Treat them as part of the price. For an agency, at least one of them is not optional.

Agency Pack

The Agency Pack adds white label for the platform and reports, client seats, the Lead Generator, unlimited scheduled reports with AI summaries and a listing in the Agency Catalog. It costs US$69, US$99 or US$129 a month for 30, 50 or 100 projects, and it can only be added to an annual subscription. An agency on annual Growth with the 30-project pack pays US$2,678.40 plus US$828, or US$3,506.40 a year. The Lead Generator, a widget that trades a free on-page audit for a visitor's email, delivers 100 leads a month. Our SE Ranking for agencies guide walks through that setup.

AI Search and the API

The plans already track AI prompts. The AI Search add-on extends those limits, removes the brand cap on AI research and includes SE Visible, at US$89 a month month-to-month or US$71.20 billed annually for the entry package; the larger packages cost US$143.20 or US$276 a month billed annually. Its unit is one prompt on one AI platform, so one prompt on five engines uses five checks. Beyond the API credits each plan includes, more come through the API add-on at US$45, US$149 or US$555 a month, sold annually only, or a standalone API plan from US$179 a month, also annual, which needs no SE Ranking subscription. A pay-as-you-go wallet starts at US$50 for 250,000 credits that never expire.

Start monthly, go annual later

Payments are not refunded, so pay monthly until your setup is stable, then switch to annual billing for the 20% saving.

Rank tracking and research

Daily rankings, and where they break

Rank tracking is the oldest and strongest tool. Standard rankings are checked automatically once a day across Google desktop and mobile, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, by country, city or postal code, with Google's top 100 results, and a Recheck Data button runs a manual check at any time. Daily tracking on every plan is SE Ranking's clearest edge over Ahrefs. It is also the feature that fails loudest. When Google changed how its results could be fetched, several long-time customers wrote on Trustpilot that rankings were missing or wrong for a week or more, and that the outage hit their client reports.

Local and map rankings run on a different clock. Positions in the Google Maps tracker are checked once a week by default, and the schedule can be adjusted in the location settings. Each plan includes three Local Marketing locations with 1,500 local and map keywords between them, and Local Marketing also handles listings in 100+ directories, reviews and Google Business Profile data. A business with many branches will need extra locations, which start at US$18.40 each. For a single shop, the included three are probably enough.

Keyword and competitor research

Keyword Research returns difficulty, monthly volume and cost per click, plus similar, related and low-volume suggestions and the pages that rank. Volume is based on Google Keyword Planner data, and the help center admits that figures can differ from Semrush and other tools, and that a keyword can show 0 when Keyword Planner returns nothing. Competitive Research shows the keywords any domain ranks for in organic and paid search, its top pages and subdomains, and the sites competing for the same terms, with history back to February 2020. Paid coverage includes competitors' ad copy and monthly ad history, which Ahrefs covers only thinly.

Backlinks, and the sample limit

The Backlink Checker analyzes any domain's backlinks against more than 15 parameters, while Backlink Monitoring checks your own links automatically every week. SE Ranking says 58% of backlinks are refreshed every 90 days. Its index is large for a mid-priced tool but far smaller than Ahrefs'. For most small and mid-sized sites that matters less than it sounds, because the links that move rankings for a local business or a niche store are usually the few hundred strongest referring domains, and those appear in both tools.

One limit is easy to miss. The totals at the top show the full profile, but the tables are built from an analyzed sample that is capped by plan, for example at 10,000 backlinks, so an export can return a few dozen domains against a total of thousands [4]. The full list needs the Data API, so anyone planning a link audit from exports should check the sample size first.

Audits, content and AI visibility

Website Audit and the content tools

Website Audit crawls a whole site and reports security, speed, status codes, redirects, indexation, meta tags and links, with a fix for each issue. The crawler always follows the robots.txt file, audits can run weekly or monthly on a schedule, and a standalone version audits any site without a project. The On-Page SEO Checker scores a single URL against a target query and lists what to fix. Content Editor builds briefs, checks drafts and includes an AI Writer under the Content Marketing tools. Each plan includes 25 or 50 articles, and the editor fully supports eight languages, plus Dutch without language processing.

AI Results Tracker and SE Visible

The AI Results Tracker shows how a brand and website appear in Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity, with links, mentions, competitors and cited sources. Prompt limits are shared across all projects, and prompts in inactive projects still count. SE Visible is a separate product for AI brand visibility, sold on its own or included with the AI Search add-on. It tracks five engines in 42 countries, daily by default, and collects real AI responses through a browser interface rather than through APIs. That matters. API answers often differ from what users see.

MCP, API, integrations and reports

SE Ranking runs an official MCP server, listed in the Claude and ChatGPT connector directories, and one API key covers both the Data API and the Project API. Keys have one weakness: they cannot currently be scoped or restricted. Integrations cover Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Google Ads data, Matomo, Looker Studio, Whatagraph, AgencyAnalytics and Reportz, with automation through Zapier, a native n8n node and visual scenarios on the Make.com platform. WordPress and Wix integrations serve content teams. Report Builder creates PDF, HTML and XLS reports that can go out on a schedule.

Billing, refunds and the fine print

Refunds and canceling

The refund policy is short: "Payments are non-refundable, except in cases where the service wasn’t delivered as promised" [1]. The Terms add that paid or unused funds are not refunded outside poor service or special promotions. In practice, the 14-day trial is your refund window. Use all of it. Cancellation is self-serve from Billing, and the subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period, then expires on its own. Add-ons bought separately must be canceled one by one. On an annual plan, Content Marketing, extra keywords and the AI add-on cannot be canceled in the app at all, so support has to do it for you.

⚠️
Watch out
Annual add-ons need support to cancel

On an annual plan, Content Marketing, extra keywords and the AI add-on cannot be canceled in the app. Support has to do it.

Upgrades, renewal and payments

You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and the system charges the difference. A downgrade refunds nothing, though: the unused balance is credited to your Stripe account. The renewal reminder goes out 7 days before renewal, and an account that is not renewed within 60 days has its data deleted. All billing has moved to Stripe, while 2Checkout, the previous provider, is being retired during 2026. Stripe takes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, bank transfer and direct debit. PayPal is not available.

Terms, data and the one-session rule

The Terms were last updated on June 25, 2026, and are governed by the laws of the State of California; we found no arbitration clause in them. The privacy statement says SE Ranking does not use the personal data it processes to train general AI models. One rule surprises teams. Only one active session is allowed per login at a time, and a second sign-in on another device ends the first. Teams that share a password will keep logging each other out. The fix is seats or guest links, which is why the seat price matters more here than it first appears.

Support, documentation and what users say

All customers get the help center, Academy resources, and chat and email support. Higher tiers add customer success, Growth adds dedicated support, and annual subscriptions include free assisted migration. The Academy, with a beginner course and a 60-question certification exam, is free for paying and trial users.

The weak spot is documentation. The pricing page is current, but many older pages were never updated after a plan change. The pricing page gives the Agency Pack 30 client seats, while a February 2026 help article still caps it at 10 specialists, and the US$45 API add-on comes with 3M credits on the pricing page against 250K credits a year on an older API pricing page. We count 25 such outdated statements. Only four disagreements have no newer page to settle them, among them the standalone API's yearly credits. Trust the pricing page. Confirm seats in writing.

The public ratings are consistently positive across G2, Capterra and Trustpilot. In our sample of 100 Trustpilot reviews, 76 gave five stars and 15 gave one. The one-star reviews cluster around three issues: rank tracking that broke for days after Google changes while support promised fixes, customers moved from older plans to more expensive ones, and refunds refused for those weeks, as the Terms allow. SE Ranking's own review roundup notes that the drawbacks G2 users tag most are gaps in specific features and price.

SE Ranking next to Ahrefs and Semrush

At list price, Core costs the same US$129 a month as Ahrefs Lite and US$10 less than Semrush's SEO plan. Billed annually, Core costs US$51.60 a year less than Lite's US$1,290 and US$169.56 less than Semrush's US$1,407.96. The bigger gap is in tracking: Core checks rankings daily, while Lite checks them weekly, and neither rival matches a trial that needs no card. Ahrefs keeps the clear edge on backlink depth, while SE Ranking goes further on competitors' paid search. If links are your main job, start with our Ahrefs vs SE Ranking comparison.

How we score SE Ranking

We read the pricing page from the US, about 200 help center articles, the legal pages and SE Ranking's own blog as of October 12, 2026, plus the public ratings. All arithmetic is ours. Value and ease of use score highest. Documentation and support score lowest, because of the outdated help pages, the four unresolved contradictions and the refund policy. The reasoning for each axis sits on the card below.

That lands SE Ranking at 3.9/5: excellent value and daily tracking, held back by outdated documentation, annual-only add-ons and a policy of no refunds.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SE Ranking cost?+

Core is US$129 a month and Growth US$279, or US$103.20 and US$223.20 a month billed annually; Enterprise is custom.

Does SE Ranking have a free trial?+

Yes. It lasts 14 days, needs no credit card, and does not turn into a paid plan by itself.

Does SE Ranking have a free plan?+

No. There is no free tier, only single-check free tools on the website, and the account goes inactive after the trial until you pay.

How does SE Ranking count tracked keywords?+

A keyword counts once for every search engine it is tracked in, and every extra region, location and project counts separately. So 500 keywords on Google desktop and mobile in two cities use all 2,000 of Core's slots.

Can I get a refund from SE Ranking?+

Generally not. Payments are non-refundable except when the service was not delivered as promised, so use the 14-day trial fully before paying.

Is SE Ranking better than Ahrefs?+

For daily rank tracking and price, yes; for backlink depth, Ahrefs has the larger index.

The bottom line

SE Ranking is the best value of the major SEO suites as of October 2026: daily tracking, generous limits, API and MCP access, and a trial you cannot be billed for. Run that trial with your real keywords, engines and locations, check the rankings against Google, and only then pay. Count keywords per engine before you settle on Core. Treat the add-ons as part of the price, because for agencies they are not optional. For the plan-by-plan math, read our SE Ranking pricing guide.
