The education offer in one view

SE Ranking teaches SEO in three ways, and each one has its own door. The Academy is a library of free video courses for anyone with an active subscription, including the 14-day trial [1]. The certification exam is free, has 60 questions and stays valid for a year [2]. The Educational Partnership Program gives schools and nonprofits free platform access for up to three months [3]. This guide covers each one as of 12 October 2026, and how to teach with it. One gap comes first. There is no student discount.

The useful way to read the offer is by access window. The Academy and the platform both live inside a subscription, a trial or a partner grant, and they disappear when that window closes. Planning coursework around those dates matters more than picking courses. Only the free tools, help center videos and vendor research sit outside it.

Who gets in, and for how long

The Academy is SE Ranking's learning hub, with video lessons, expert sessions and tests. An active subscription, paid or trial, unlocks every course, and courses and future updates cost nothing extra. Lessons are on demand and can be paused and resumed. The Academy page itself says it is free for paid and trial users, while the agency profitability course page says new users can start it after creating a free account. The two pages disagree. In practice, the trial gives access, and that is the safe route for a student who wants to be sure.

The more important rule is when access ends. Course pages say access to the Academy lasts for the duration of your subscription, so when a plan or a trial expires, the courses go with it. Download certificates and notes while you still can. Students should start on day one. Students outside a partner school can use the 14-day trial, which needs no card and does not convert to a paid plan, so nothing is charged when it ends.

Toolkit tip
Start courses on day one

Academy access lasts only as long as the subscription or trial. Begin the coursework the day access opens, not near the end.

The courses worth assigning

Adding up the course pages, the Academy holds more than 22 hours of lessons, from six-hour fundamentals to 30-minute product tours. That is enough for a full term of homework. Most courses are in English; a beginner course is also available in Spanish and German. The catalog falls into five groups that map neatly onto a syllabus.

Fundamentals: SEO Basics and Content SEO

SEO Basics, taught by Jason Barnard, runs more than six hours across 41 lessons with 278 test questions. It covers how search engines work, keyword research, content, site setup, technical SEO, on-page SEO and link building, and it suits beginners. Like some other courses, it also requires a final test for the certificate. Content SEO, taught by Joe Wills, runs more than two hours in 43 lessons with 90 test questions, and its lessons last 3 to 10 minutes each. It covers the content cycle, keyword research and optimization, strategy, insights and promotion. It fits writing classes well.

The platform course comes first

Getting Started with SE Ranking runs 116 minutes in 32 lessons with 22 test questions on its course page. It is the fastest route from a new account to a working project. Start here. The help center's quickstart videos cover the same ground in shorter form: project setup, inviting a team, keyword research, rank tracking, competitors, audits, backlinks and reports. They are free, short and current.

AI search and reporting

Three courses cover the newer material. AI for SEO: Expert Framework has eight lessons and 115 minutes from practitioners on content, prompts, E-E-A-T and workflow automation, and it was last updated in December 2025. A 90-minute AI Search toolkit course explains how AI answers surface brands and how to use SE Ranking's AI tracking tools, with 14 test questions and a certificate at 80%. It suits any class covering generative search. For analytics classes, a Looker Studio course runs 80 minutes in seven lessons with three dashboard templates. It pairs well with Google's own Looker Studio material.

Business modules for agency students

The agency tools course runs 30 minutes in 10 lessons. How to Promote Your Agency, a 70-minute positioning course hosted by Myriam Jessier, co-founder of the PRAGM agency, has four lessons: branding and storytelling; positioning, niching and pricing; personal branding and networking; and closing the gap between delivered value and client perception. Seventy minutes fits one class.

Agency Profitability in 2026 is the richer course. Its five lessons cover the full benchmark report, a solo breakdown of the findings and a panel with three agency founders, drawing on data from 186 agencies across five regions. It closes with 16 scenario questions and a 10-question self-assessment that scores an agency across 10 areas and maps it to one of four profitability tiers. That self-assessment makes a good field exercise. A student team can score a real local agency, with its permission, and compare the tier against the benchmark. Keep client names out of submissions.

Conference courses and the capstone

SEO Foresight 2025 bundles SE Ranking's annual conference, DoFollow Podcast episodes and expert talks into one course. Nine experts, including Barry Schwartz, Dixon Jones and Mordy Oberstein, cover AI Overviews, topical authority and link building, and SE Ranking's head of SEO, Anastasia Kotsiubynska, appears in the sessions. The 2024 edition is larger: 10 sessions from 12 experts, more than seven hours in total, with Lily Ray and Aleyda Solis among them on Google updates, SGE and keyword research. Some of it has aged. That makes it a useful record of how quickly AI search moved in a single year.

SE Ranking in Action is listed on the Academy page at 14 lessons and 10 hours, and the help center describes it as real-world use cases and platform walkthroughs based on client scenarios. It sits between the beginner course and real client work, so it is the natural capstone. Assign it last. Across the catalog, students hear vendor staff and outside consultants side by side. Point out which is which.

Where the course pages disagree

The Academy's numbers are not consistent from page to page. The Academy page lists Getting Started as 21 lessons and two hours, against 32 lessons and 116 minutes on the course page. Its homepage card shows AI for SEO as five lessons and one hour, against eight lessons and 115 minutes. The help center calls SEO Basics a 14-lesson course and Content SEO a 6-hour, 41-lesson course, while the course pages give SEO Basics 41 lessons over six hours and Content SEO 43 lessons over two hours. The help center appears to have swapped the two. Trust the course pages.

Even the marketing figures wobble: one course page claims 1.5M+ registered experts and, a few lines later, 1,000,000 users worldwide. Ask students which figure a press release should use, and why. The translated courses are shorter, too. The Academy page lists Getting Started in German at 16 lessons and one hour, and in Spanish at 20 lessons and 1.5 hours, against 32 lessons in English, and the help center says new languages will be added as demand grows. Expect less depth in translation. SEO Foresight 2025 even disagrees with itself, since its header promises over four hours while the structure block below says 5+ hours. Budget five.

⚠️
Watch out
Access ends with the subscription

When a plan or trial expires, so does the Academy. Download certificates and notes while you still can.

The certification exam

The SE Ranking certification has 60 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, a pass mark of 80% and one year of validity, and its price is listed as free [2]. It was developed with Boulder SEO Marketing, it is open-book, and it is English-only. It also requires an active SE Ranking account, so schedule attempts early in any access window. You can retake it as often as you like, with a mandatory seven-day cooling-off period between attempts, and only the highest passing score is kept.

What it tests, and who it was built for

The exam covers SEO and digital marketing fundamentals, SE Ranking platform skills from keyword research to AI search tracking, and client management and communication. That last part is unusual. The certification page says the exam was developed for digital marketing agencies to test their teams, so it suits agency training more than pure theory, though individual students can still sit it. Certified agencies earn 15 of 100 points in the Agency Catalog score and can display a badge, which freelancers can use too.

Preparing and renewing

The certification page points to two prep courses, one on core tools and one on agency tools, plus the help center, blog, webinars and YouTube channel. Because the exam is open-book, the help center can stay open in another tab. Use it. The certificate remains valid for 12 months from the date you pass, and renewing yearly keeps knowledge aligned with new features. For students, one pass during the course is enough. Course certificates are separate: they need 80% or more on the test questions and are printable, a reasonable portfolio item for a junior marketer.

⚠️
Watch out
There is no student discount

Students outside a partner school rely on the 14-day trial, and the pricing page lists no standing nonprofit discount either.

The Educational Partnership Program

The program offers nonprofits and digital marketing schools access to the platform for free [3], and the Terms describe it as partnerships with nonprofit organizations and accredited digital marketing schools. It provides free access for up to three months, a branded landing page for courses with more than 30 participants, a personal demo for teachers, a branded webinar for students and how-to videos. The page adds that "The above options are subject to negotiation", so ask early in the semester. Nonprofits get the same free access as schools but no standing discount, and three months covers an audit, a keyword plan and a cleanup.

Applying and using the window well

The application is a short form with name, email and a message. The page asks applicants to say what their needs are, so the message should state course size, dates, the tools students need and whether the course is paid. Size matters, because more than 30 participants qualifies for the branded landing page. Be specific. Once accepted, book the student webinar for the first week, before students build projects. It saves a lecture.

Commission and restrictions

For profitable educational courses, SE Ranking can link students to the school's affiliate account and pay a 30% commission on their purchases. Schools that use it should disclose it to students, because transparency keeps the recommendation honest. The rules elsewhere are strict. The program prohibits posting the branded landing page URL on third-party sites, transferring plans to other students or teachers, distributing student promo codes and selling access. The page is blunt on purpose: "This partnership is designed solely for non-profit purposes". Read the rules before applying.

Running a class on the platform

During a trial or partner access, create one project per student team and add a manager seat per team, or use view-only client seats for instructors. Remember that SE Ranking allows one session per login. Shared passwords will not work. Plan seats before day one. The trial also has hard ceilings: 10 research reports a day and 750 tracked keywords [4]. Twenty students running research at once will hit the daily report limit fast, so stagger exercises across days, or ask the partner program for higher limits.

Free material outside any account

Not every exercise needs an account. About 40 free tools run without one, with about five uses a day each, and a keyword difficulty checker needs no sign-up, so teachers can set exercises on rank checks, redirects or robots.txt. AI search is new in most syllabi. SE Ranking's free AI visibility checker gives five checks a day, and its studies on AI Overviews and ads in ChatGPT supply current data, so students can compare brands in class without a subscription. Its blog research, built on its own data, suits case discussions. Cite it as vendor research.

A lab on AI assistants

The help center's video library teaches AI-assistant workflows: connecting SE Ranking's MCP to an LLM, prompts for keyword gaps and backlink summaries, and installing SE Ranking SEO Skills in Claude. One skill builds a content brief from SERP, keyword, competitor and AI search data, and each video runs a few minutes, which makes the set ideal for a lab on AI agents. Some videos also pair SE Ranking with Planable, the social media tool it acquired, but Planable is a separate purchase. Check access before assigning it.

Two study plans

Inside the 14-day trial

Getting Started (116 minutes), the AI Search course (90 minutes) and the Looker Studio course (80 minutes) add up to about 4.8 hours. Add SEO Basics' six hours and the total is about 10.8 hours, under an hour a day for 14 days. It is tight but doable. Because the exam needs an active account and the courses vanish when the trial ends, a student who wants the certificate as well should keep the exam inside the same window, remembering the seven-day wait if a retake is needed.

A semester with partner access

Three months of partner access is enough for a structured course. The outline below fills the core weeks; leave a week of slack for retakes and late projects, since the exam needs the account to stay active:

How it compares for education

Semrush runs a similar program, Semrush for Education, free for three months, but only for accredited colleges and universities granting associate's, bachelor's, master's and MBA degrees in limited regions. Ahrefs advertises free video courses and an Ahrefs Certification. SE Ranking's program also admits nonprofits and digital marketing schools, which is wider access than Semrush offers. Ask all three anyway. For the platform itself, our SE Ranking review covers the tools students will use. Whichever program a school picks, the same four mistakes come up with SE Ranking, and each one costs a semester's momentum:

Who can join the Educational Partnership Program?+

Nonprofits and digital marketing schools. It offers free access for up to three months, plus a branded landing page for courses with more than 30 participants.

How often can I retake the certification exam?+

As often as you like, with a mandatory seven-day cooling-off period between attempts. Only the highest passing score is kept.

Are Academy courses available in other languages?+

Most are in English; a beginner course is also available in Spanish and German, in shorter versions.

The bottom line

SE Ranking's education offer is generous for anyone with an account: hours of free courses, printable certificates and a free certification exam that agencies can turn into catalog points. The catch is the window. Everything lives inside a subscription, a trial or three months of partner access, so plan the coursework around the dates first and the course list second. Schools and nonprofits should apply to the partnership program early and say exactly what they need, while individual students should start the trial on day one. For what a plan costs once free access ends, read our SE Ranking pricing guide.
