How to use this checklist
Answer these questions before you pay for Serpstat, and answer them with your real numbers: sites, keywords, locations, users and audit size. Every check below was settled against Serpstat's own pages, read from the US on 13 October 2026, and most map to one row of the pricing table [1]. If an answer surprises you, the plan you were about to buy is probably wrong. Ten minutes here can save a non-refundable year [2]. The checks are grouped by decision area, so skip any area that does not apply to you. Start with tracking. It decides the plan more often than anything else.
Rank tracking: count checks before you count features
Serpstat updates rankings daily on every plan, while Ahrefs updates weekly on all its plans. If you report to clients every Monday, weekly may be enough; if you react to drops the same day, daily matters, and Serpstat is cheap for daily. The real limit is the check allowance. Position checks are counted per keyword, per location, per check: 10,000 a month on Individual, 50,000 on Team, 100,000 on Team x2 and 500,000 on Agency. A practical rule is to multiply keywords by locations by devices by thirty days. Count before you choose.
- How many keywords will you track? Daily tracking of 300 keywords takes about 9,000 checks a month (our arithmetic), so Individual tops out near 330 keywords.
- In how many locations and devices? Tracking 300 keywords daily on desktop and mobile in two cities takes about 36,000 checks a month. That rules out Individual and fits Team's 50,000.
- Will you track AI Overviews? They cost two credits per keyword and region, because Google is queried twice. Tracking 300 keywords daily in normal results and AI Overview takes about 27,000 checks a month, while Team's 50,000 cover about 550 keywords at that double rate. Track AI Overviews only for key terms, or buy Team.
Count keywords times locations times devices times 30. That number of rank checks, not the feature list, usually decides between Individual and Team.
Sites, seats and client access
The second set of limits is about people and projects rather than data. Individual allows 5 projects for Rank Tracker and Site Audit, while Team and above are unlimited, so a freelancer with six clients has already outgrown Individual. Projects are cheap to create. The checks inside them are what cost. Seats are the next wall, because the pricing page shows no price for adding a single seat. A growing team therefore jumps a whole plan at a time, and the account owner matters too: only the owner can renew, change settings or add members.
- How many people need a login? Individual has one user, Team three, Team x2 six and Agency thirty. A team of four must buy Team x2. Count the boss who checks once a month.
- Do clients need read-only access? Share access is 50 viewers on Team, 100 on Team x2 and 500 on Agency; Individual has none. Shared viewers do not use paid seats.
- Who will own the account? Use a company email, not a freelancer's personal one. Ownership is hard to move later.
The API, MCP and automation
This is where Individual and Team part ways most sharply. API access starts on Team, with 200,000 credits a month, and Individual has no API at all. If you pull data into dashboards, scripts or AI agents, you need Team. The jump from Individual to Team costs $60 a month on monthly billing or $50 a month on annual billing, and for that you get 200,000 API credits, MCP, JavaScript audits, batch analysis and two more seats. That is why most working teams should skip Individual entirely.
- Is one API request per second enough? Every Team plan is capped at one; Agency allows ten. A nightly sync of 3,000 calls takes 50 minutes at that rate. Ask sales before you build anything real-time.
- Will you use MCP? The MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini to Serpstat and spends API credits, so it sits on Team and above. The local version supports Claude Code and Cursor.
- Do you report or automate elsewhere? The Looker Studio connector, the Google Sheets add-on, the Airbyte connector and the n8n community node, added in July 2026, all draw on API credits. Team, again.
Individual has no API, MCP, batch analysis or JavaScript rendering. If you need any of them, Team is the starting point.
Audits and research limits
Audits and research are metered separately, and the caps differ more between plans than the prices suggest. Monthly audit pages are 30,000 on Individual, 150,000 on Team, 300,000 on Team x2 and 1.5 million on Agency, and one page checked costs one Site Audit credit [3]. Auditing a 10,000-page site weekly uses about 43,000 pages a month, which needs Team. Research runs on daily searches: 100, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 by plan. The support page says they are spent on each request, report switch, sort or filter. An analyst sorting reports all day burns 100 quickly.
- Do you audit JavaScript sites? Rendering is unavailable on Individual and included from Team up. Without it, an audit of a React, Vue or Angular site sees an empty shell. Open a page with JavaScript switched off; if the main text disappears, you need rendering.
- How many pages fit in one scan? The maximum is 5,000 pages on Individual, 25,000 on Team, 50,000 on Team x2 and unlimited on Agency. Split large catalogs by folder or sitemap.
- How many rows do you export? Exports are capped at 50,000 rows a month on Individual and 250,000 on Team, and reports show at most 2,000 rows on Individual.
- Do you need batch analysis or keyword lists? Domain batch analysis compares many domains on 18 metrics at once, from Team up, with 500 domains a project. Keyword lists hold 10,000 keywords on Team and Team x2. Individual has neither.
Reports, support and the AI extras
Most of these checks decide between Team and Agency, or tell you to ignore a feature. White label reports are Agency-only, while Team plans get branded reports with your logo next to Serpstat's. If clients must never see the Serpstat name, budget $410 a month billed annually. For comparison, SE Ranking sells an Agency Pack with white label for $69 a month on annual billing, and Semrush adds white-labeling through a $20 Pro Report add-on. A small agency that needs only unbranded reports pays far less elsewhere.
- Do you need scheduled reports? Team includes 5 and Team x2 10. Five clients with monthly reports fit Team.
- Do you need phone support? Only Agency gets it. Every user gets chat and email, Team gets priority chat, and video calls with Customer Success are open to all plans.
- Do you need AI writing tools? They come with Team and above, and they are generic. Do not upgrade from Individual for them alone.
- Do you need AI brand monitoring? The SEO plans track AI Overviews, not chatbots. LLM Brand Monitor is a separate product; Pro costs $39 a month as a limited-time offer against a $99 list price. Budget $99 if the offer ends.
Does the data cover your market?
A thin database makes every tool weaker, and no plan fixes it. Serpstat covers 230 Google databases, but on its own statistics page Google US holds 3.7 billion keywords while Portugal holds 27.5 million and Slovenia 6.1 million, a gap of more than a hundred to one. Bing is analyzed for the US only. Treat any database total as a ceiling, not a promise. The quickest test is free: search ten keywords you already rank for in your own country on Freemium. If most return no volume or no results, the paid plans will not help, because they run on the same database.
- Do you research PPC? Competitors' ads, paid keywords and landing pages are included in the plans, not sold as an add-on.
- Do you need keyword clustering? It groups up to 50,000 keywords per project by shared URLs in the top 30 results. If you plan site structure from large keyword sets, it is a reason to pick Serpstat.
- Have you noticed which numbers disagree? The keyword count ranges from 7.03 billion to 8.91 billion depending on the page, and the backlink index is 529 billion on one page and 1.1 trillion on another. Treat database sizes as marketing.
Billing, refunds and cancellation
This is the area where buyers get hurt. Recurring billing starts with the first payment, payments are non-refundable, and cancellation goes by email no later than 15 days before the expiration [2]. Serpstat may consider justified requests, but plan as if no money comes back. The pricing page also opens on annual prices of $50, $100, $169 and $410, while month-to-month is $69, $129, $209 and $499. Toggle it before you compare Serpstat with a rival's monthly price. The gap is real.
- Monthly or annual? Annual billing saves 27.5% on Individual but only 17.8% on Agency (our arithmetic). Pay monthly for the first month or two, then switch.
- Will you remember the 15-day notice? On an annual plan, a missed notice means another year. Switch off renewal in Bills, then email support@serpstat.com more than 15 days before renewal. Keep the email.
- Do you need VAT invoices? Invoices carry the VAT number saved in Settings, and details are not added retroactively. Enter them before the first payment.
- Do you qualify for a discount? The pricing FAQ mentions custom pricing for enterprises, non-profits and longer-term contracts. Ask before you pay.
- Have you spotted the outdated pages? Trial pages still quote $59 and $119, and a help article gives different seat counts. Trust the pricing page.
Payments are non-refundable, so pay month-to-month for the first month or two and switch to annual once you are sure.
Credits, and what happens to your data
Each module draws from its own credit pool [3]. Site Analysis, Keyword Research, Backlinks, Rank Tracker, Site Audit and the API each have their own, and credits cannot be moved. Running out in one module stops that module only, so a team can still run keyword research after the Site Audit pool is empty, but it cannot borrow research credits to finish an audit. Plan credits reset each billing cycle and do not carry over. A quiet month banks nothing for a busy one. Size the plan for your busiest month, or top up when needed.
- What happens to top-ups if you lapse? They are forfeited if the subscription lapses, and a failed card payment can do that. Do not stockpile them.
- How long is your data kept? From 2 months on Individual to 100 on Agency, then every project except the first one created is deleted. Lapse in January, return in April, and you find one project left.
- Can you export your rank history? Exports stay in Latest reports for 60 days. Export before you cancel or downgrade.
- Are you migrating? Since March 2026 the Import Position History tab detects Semrush and Ahrefs export files automatically, so your old rankings can come across.
Planning the trial, and whether you need to pay at all
Before you pay anything, check whether free is enough. Freemium gives 10 searches a day, 10 results per report and 10 pages to audit, which answers a single question about a competitor but does not run SEO for a site. The free checkers for competitors, Domain Rank, AI content and domain overviews run ten times a day each, and they show the data quality on your own site. If ten rows are enough, do not buy. If not, the trial runs seven days and then charges the plan price. Plan each day before you start.
- Which trial? The Team trial includes the API, AI tools, batch analysis and 10,000 rank checks; the Individual trial has none of those extras and 2,000 rank checks [4]. Take Team even if you plan to buy Individual.
- Is your card ready? A $1 verification charge is returned within half an hour, and auto-renewal then switches on. Switch it off the same day.
- What will you decide on day seven? Whether daily ranks match Google, whether the audit catches your real issues, whether the API or MCP fits, and whether credits last. If any answer is no, cancel.
Rivals, and what users say
Serpstat's case against its rivals rests on daily tracking, an included API and seats at a lower price. Each comparison turns on a different trade-off, so compare the shortlist on your own keywords rather than on the feature grid, because the tool that wins on paper may not cover your market as well. Our Serpstat alternatives guide goes deeper on each.
- Semrush SEO costs $139 a month or $117.33 billed annually and tracks 500 keywords daily. It has more add-on toolkits; Serpstat Team costs less and includes the API.
- Ahrefs Lite costs $129 a month, tracks 750 keywords weekly and adds users at $40 a month each. It is stronger on backlinks, but Serpstat Team can record about thirty snapshots of each of roughly 1,667 keywords a month for the same $129, against about four for Ahrefs.
- SE Ranking Core costs $129 a month or $103.20 billed annually, tracks 2,000 keywords daily and has a 14-day trial with no card. Serpstat includes three users and 200,000 API credits where SE Ranking includes one seat and 25,000.
- Mangools Basic costs $49 a month, simpler and cheaper than Serpstat Individual at $69. Pick Mangools for a blog. Pick Serpstat for a business site.
The review platforms tell two different stories. G2 is the only one with more than 30 reviews, and Google's snippet of that page stresses price and breadth. Trustpilot is the warning. Of Serpstat's 19 reviews there, 11 are one-star, and the complaints cluster on cancellation, trial charges and the 15-day notice rather than on data quality. They match the terms we read. Take them as a warning about paperwork, not data. Read a few G2 reviews from companies your size, and set your renewal reminder before you pay.
The terms ask for emailed cancellation no later than 15 days before the expiration. Switch off renewal in Bills and keep the email.

The bottom line
Serpstat passes this checklist for most small teams: daily tracking, an API and three users for $100 a month billed annually. It fails it for buyers who need refund rights or clean paperwork. Buy Individual for one person and up to five sites. Buy Team for the API, MCP, JavaScript audits or a second user, and Agency only for white label. Whatever you pick, take the Team trial first, switch off renewal on day one, and email support 15 days before any renewal. Our Serpstat pricing guide has the full plan-by-plan breakdown.
