The short verdict for SaaS teams
SaaS companies grow through content: pages that answer the problems their product solves, comparisons with rivals and guides for the tools buyers already use. Serpstat's SaaS page pitches exactly that work, promising to help "Scale your product, find growth points, and attract new users with content" [1]. It names three challenges: lead generation through content, finding growth points and new features, and positioning against competitors. All three run on keyword data. We read Serpstat's pages in October 2026 to see how well it serves that work.
For a marketing team of two or three, Serpstat Team is the answer. It gives keyword research, clustering, daily tracking, audits, an API and MCP for $100 a month billed annually [2]. It is strongest on research and tracking. Its weak spot is AI visibility, which lives in a separate product, LLM Brand Monitor, or comes built in with rivals that include prompt tracking. Bring patience, too. A 2020 guide on Serpstat's blog by MINUTTIA tells SaaS companies to "expect results in 9-12 months". Its statistics are from 2019 and 2020. The timeline still holds.
Track brand-plus-pricing and alternative keywords daily alongside your rivals. A review site outranking you on those terms costs signups, and daily data shows the day it happened.
Which plan a SaaS marketing team needs
Serpstat's SaaS page aims Team at a small SaaS team of marketers, SEO, PPC or content specialists of up to three people, and Agency at teams of up to 30. Team x2, with six users, now sits between them. Most SaaS teams start on Team. Three seats cover a content marketer, an SEO and a growth lead, and annual billing saves $348 a year by our arithmetic. Agency suits SaaS companies with many products or markets, but at $410 a month billed annually it is expensive for SEO alone, and Team x2 covers six people first. Give each heavy user their own seat.
| Plan | Price | Users | What stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team | $129 a month, or $100 billed annually | 3 | Unlimited projects, 50,000 position checks, JavaScript audits, clustering credits, 200,000 API credits |
| Team x2 | $169 | 6 | The step before Agency |
| Agency | $410 a month billed annually | 30 | 500,000 checks, 2 million API credits at 10 requests a second |
What a year actually costs
A three-person team pays $1,200 a year for Team billed annually. Adding LLM Brand Monitor Pro at $39 a month brings the year to $1,668, by our arithmetic. That covers research, tracking, audits, the API, MCP and AI visibility. Few marketing budgets notice it. Before revenue, a startup can use Freemium's 10 daily searches, the public checkers and LLM Brand Monitor Free to check a few competitors and test demand for a category. Upgrade when you start publishing weekly. Our Serpstat pricing guide covers every plan.
AI visibility needs LLM Brand Monitor, billed separately from the SEO plans. Semrush and SE Ranking include prompt tracking in their plans.
Finding the words your buyers actually use
A 2023 Serpstat case describes product-led SEO at AutoBI, a Ukrainian fleet-management SaaS startup, as an approach built around the product and its customer benefits. The idea is simple. Research what users do in the product, then write for those jobs. The starting point is language. The SaaS page suggests finding out how the audience describes your product and the problems it solves, and Related Keywords surfaces synonyms that do not contain your product's own terms. Buyers rarely use your category name. Their words become your headings.
Start with problem keywords
Problem keywords describe the pain, not the tool: how to track fleet fuel costs rather than fleet software. Search Questions lists questions by how, what and why, and a 2021 Serpstat post on growth points calls users who want a solution regardless of tool the hottest leads. Problem pages tend to bring the most qualified traffic for young SaaS products, because the searcher has the pain but no preferred tool yet. A page that explains the problem well and shows the product solving it can convert better than a feature page.
Features, jobs and questions
Each major feature can earn its own landing page. Run Keywords Selection on each feature name to see demand. Features with real search volume deserve a page, and the others belong in the docs. The SaaS page also mentions formulating jobs to be done for positioning. In practice, cluster problem keywords and name each cluster after the job it represents, so each job becomes a page, a feature message and a sales talking point. Search Questions feeds the help center the same way. Questions with commercial words, such as which and best, belong on marketing pages. The rest belong in docs and FAQs.
Pages that meet buyers ready to switch
The 2021 growth-points post builds a SaaS content section from four directions: replacement seekers, comparison seekers, users of a familiar tool and problem solvers [3]. It starts with Serpstat's Competitors report to list rivals. Problem solvers are covered above. The other three each produce a distinct page type, and together with integration and pricing terms they catch buyers late in the decision.
Alternative and versus pages
The post recommends pages for users looking to replace a competitor, built on queries with alternative, competitor and like; its example is a Dropbox alternative page. Serpstat itself runs such pages for Semrush, Ahrefs and others. They work because the searcher has already tried a competitor and is unhappy with something, usually price, limits or missing features. Name those gaps honestly. Versus pages follow the same logic: built on vs, versus and against queries, they compare two leaders but lead the reader to your product. Keywords Selection on a rival's name plus vs shows which comparisons people search.
Integration, pricing and familiar-tool queries
People search for integrations: your product plus Slack, plus HubSpot, plus Sheets. Keywords Selection on your brand plus an integration name shows which combinations have demand, and integration pages rank on low-difficulty terms and convert well because the searcher already uses both tools. Prospects also search your brand plus pricing, cost or free. Our research for this cluster found serpstat pricing at 20 searches a month and serpstat free at 10 in the US. Small numbers, high intent. Finally, the post's third direction targets users solving a problem in a tool they already use, such as editing a PDF in Google Docs, and shows them your product as the better way. Such long-tail queries are often cheap to rank for.
Searchers on alternative and vs queries have already tried a competitor. Keywords Selection on a rival's name plus vs shows which comparisons people search.
Turning rival data into a content plan
The SaaS page suggests building a content plan from the best pages of competitors. Top Pages sorts a rival's pages by organic traffic, and their top ten pages are a ready list of topics your audience wants. Keyword Gap then lists the keywords competitors rank for and you do not. For SaaS, run it against two or three direct rivals every quarter, and filter by difficulty under 40 for a young domain. The output is next quarter's content plan.
Positioning comes from the same material. Read the keywords rivals rank for and the language in their top pages. The gaps in their language are your positioning. At the category level, Market Research ranks domains by category and now adds AI Traffic, AI Score, AI Keywords and AI Citations, so it shows who wins search and AI answers. The API method getDomainsRatingData pulls the same data for up to 200 domains.
Clustering into hubs
Clustering groups keywords into topics that share search results, from 3 to 50,000 keywords per project. One cluster per hub page and one per supporting article works well for SaaS. Team's 25,000 tools credits cluster about 5,000 keywords a month, by our arithmetic, so a typical plan of 1,000 keywords costs 5,000 credits, a fifth of the monthly allowance. The number of clusters depends on the strength and type settings. Test two settings on the same list before planning pages.
Evergreen first, trending around launches
The SaaS page frames a choice between evergreen and trending topics and says Serpstat finds both. Most SaaS content should be evergreen: problems and how-tos that stay searched for years. Trending topics suit launches and news. Keyword Trends shows trending queries by country and city, updated daily, for the last month. Around a launch or an industry event, check it daily, publish on rising terms within a day or two, and send those terms to Rank Tracker to see whether it worked.
Tracking the keywords that pay
Track brand, pricing, alternative and core category keywords daily, tagged by funnel stage. Brand and pricing terms are low in volume but high in value, because the people typing them are already comparing options. Losing the first position on a branded pricing query to a review site can cost more signups than a drop on a big generic keyword. Daily data shows the day it happened. Add every direct rival to the Rank Tracker project at no extra cost. The Competitors report charts traffic share and average position over time, and watching rivals on your category terms shows who is investing in content.
Two more checks belong in the routine. SaaS sites often have a blog post and a product page competing for the same term. The URLs report flags when the ranking page is not the one you targeted, and since August 2026 the API's detectUrlCannibalization suggests a canonical or 301. Rank Tracker also tracks AI Overview presence at two credits per keyword and region. SaaS how-to content is exactly the kind Google answers with AI Overviews, so track your top 50 how-to keywords there. Watch which ones lose clicks.
Keeping the marketing site healthy
Team audits 150,000 pages a month. A SaaS marketing site with docs and a blog rarely exceeds a few thousand pages, so a weekly scheduled audit fits easily. Most issues come from new templates, migrations and docs platforms. Sites built on React or similar frameworks need JavaScript rendering in audits, which starts on Team. Page Audit scans single URLs with rendering, at 10 credits per scan through MCP, so check every new landing page template that way. SaaS links come from integrations, partner pages, comparison sites and guest content. Link Intersect finds sites linking to rivals but not to you. The AutoBI case includes an off-page plan built on the product and viral content.
Measuring AI visibility
Buyers increasingly ask ChatGPT or Perplexity which tool to use. The LLM Brand Monitor page claims that 73% of users now prefer AI over search engines, without citing a source, and we could not verify it. Even so, AI answers to best tool for questions are a real channel for SaaS. Measure it. LLM Brand Monitor tracks mention rate, share of voice and sentiment across 140+ models. It is a separate product, billed apart from the SEO plans. Pro costs $39 a month as a limited-time offer [4].
Sizing it is easy. Ten buying questions across five models, scanned weekly, come to about 217 checks a month. Pro includes 200 checks, so 17 extra credits at 25 cents each bring the bill to about $43.25 a month at the offer price, by our arithmetic. That is a small line in a SaaS marketing budget. Start it when buyers begin asking chatbots; our LLM Brand Monitor guide covers the rest.
Data, dashboards and reporting
Team's 200,000 API credits and free Rank Tracker reads let a growth team pull SEO data into its own dashboards next to signups and revenue. Internal use is allowed; showing raw data inside your product needs a license. Serpstat also exports many reports to Google BigQuery and offers a Looker Studio connector, so data teams can join SEO data with product analytics and metrics such as MQL, SQL, MRR and ARPU. That is how SEO gets credit for pipeline. Custom reports combine rankings, audits and GA4 data and can be shared without a login. For leadership, report signups from organic first. Rankings explain; signups convince.
MCP, and who holds the tokens
Marketers can ask Claude or ChatGPT for keyword gaps, rival top pages or ranking changes through Serpstat MCP, and developers can use it in Claude Code and Cursor. Treat access with care. API access uses one personal token per user, there is no sandbox, and the local MCP server keeps the token in a .env file on your machine. MCP can also start audits and delete projects. Give tokens only to the people who need them.
Serpstat against Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking
Semrush includes a daily quota of 50 tracked AI prompts from Starter at $199 a month, with MCP access, for one user. Serpstat Team plus LLM Brand Monitor Pro costs $168 a month for three users. Semrush is simpler for AI visibility. Serpstat is cheaper per person. Ahrefs includes API and MCP access from Lite and Brand Radar for AI research, but tracks rankings weekly, so teams that watch daily rankings on pricing and alternative terms get more from Serpstat. SE Ranking Core includes 100 AI prompts tracked daily and MCP access for $129 a month, with one manager seat. For AI visibility on the entry plan, SE Ranking is stronger, though Serpstat Team includes three users and more API credits.
Who should pick Serpstat, and who should not
Choose Serpstat if you run a small or mid-size SaaS marketing team that needs research, clustering, daily tracking and an API on a modest budget. Teams that sell to agencies or marketers gain a lead research angle too. Belkins, a B2B lead generation firm, added Serpstat to cover SEO and PPC in competitor research. It checks whether a target company is active by looking at its blog and backlinks; a blog silent for five months suggests a weak lead. The post dates from August 2019.
Skip it if AI visibility is your main SEO question and you want it inside one plan, which Semrush and SE Ranking offer. Enterprise SaaS teams needing SSO and custom contracts should check Semrush Enterprise or Ahrefs Enterprise. We could not confirm whether Serpstat offers SSO, since the pages we read do not mention it. Ask sales. Read dates, too: the SaaS solutions page still shows an old plan table with 9999 projects and no Team x2.
A 90-day plan, and the mistakes to avoid
The common mistakes are predictable. Teams write only about their category name and ignore comparison and alternative queries. They let blog posts cannibalize product pages, audit a JavaScript site without rendering and report rankings instead of signups. Two cheap habits help. Calendar the renewal notice so it never surprises you. And use the free help: Serpstat Academy offers free courses with certification, and Customer Success offers video consultations on every plan. Book one in the first week. After that, the first quarter can follow a simple sequence:
- Month one: research problem, feature, alternative and versus keywords, cluster them, and set up daily tracking with rivals.
- Month two: publish the first hub and comparison pages.
- Month three: run a keyword gap, start LLM Brand Monitor and report signups from organic.

The bottom line
Start on Team. Build pages for problems, features, alternatives and comparisons, and track brand and pricing terms daily alongside your rivals. Serpstat is a strong, inexpensive research and tracking engine for SaaS content. AI visibility is the gap: it needs the separate monitor, which you add when buyers start asking chatbots. Report signups, not positions. For the full verdict, read our Serpstat review.
