Daily top-100 tracking, from the cheapest plan
Serpstat Rank Tracker follows your positions and your competitors' positions in Google's top 100, for desktop, mobile and paid results in any country, state or city. The pricing table marks daily updates on Individual, Team, Team x2 and Agency [1], while Ahrefs updates weekly on all its plans and Mangools tracks weekly below its Agency plan. At $50 a month billed annually, Serpstat Individual is the cheapest daily tracker we have reviewed. It is the strongest part of the product, with unlimited competitors, free history imports and free API reads on top. The one thing to plan carefully is checks.
Daily data changes what you can see. Over a month, a daily tracker records about thirty snapshots of each keyword while a weekly one records four, so a ranking that falls on a Tuesday and recovers by Friday appears in Serpstat's history and never appears in a weekly tool's. Depth matters as well. When Google disabled the num=100 parameter in September 2025 and limited results to 10 per request, Serpstat's CEO wrote it would keep top-100 tracking without raising prices. So far, top 100 remains. That matters for new pages climbing from page five, which shallower trackers simply never see.
How checks are counted, and which plan fits
Every keyword update spends checks, and Serpstat charges for each analyzed region, so updating 10 keywords in 2 regions costs 20 credits [2]. Desktop and mobile count as separate checks. Checks renew monthly, and "Unused credits do not carry over to the next month" either, so size the plan for your busiest month, not your average one. The monthly allowance by plan looks like this:
| Plan | Position checks a month | Projects | Share access viewers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | 10,000 | 5 | None |
| Team | 50,000 | Unlimited | 50 |
| Team x2 | 100,000 | Unlimited | 100 |
| Team RT x2 | 100,000 | Unlimited | As Team |
| Agency | 500,000 | Unlimited | 500 |
The formula to write down once
Multiply keywords by regions by devices by update days. Recompute it every time a client adds a city or a product line, because each addition multiplies the whole project. A few worked cases, all our arithmetic: 500 keywords in one region, desktop only, daily, use about 15,000 checks a month, and adding mobile doubles that to 30,000. Daily tracking of 300 keywords on desktop and mobile in one city uses 18,000. A local business tracking 150 keywords daily on desktop and mobile in two cities also lands at about 18,000. Both outgrow Individual's 10,000 and fit Team's 50,000, with room left over for AI Overview tracking at double cost.
Each keyword, region and device counts as a separate check, and unused checks do not carry over to the next month. Size the plan for your busiest month.
Individual, Team or Team RT x2
Individual's 10,000 checks cover about 333 keywords a day on one device in one region. Team's 50,000 cover about 1,667, and Team also adds share access, unlimited projects and the API. Most agencies need Team from the start. Team RT x2 doubles position checks to 100,000 a month for $169, or $135 billed annually, with everything else as Team. Per 1,000 checks billed annually it costs $1.35, which by our arithmetic is the best rate below Agency. Buy it if rankings are the whole job. Our Serpstat pricing guide covers the rest of the plan math.
Setting up a project that reports cleanly
Create a project in My Projects, add your domain, keywords, regions and competitors, and set a schedule. Name projects by client and market. You will thank yourself in a year. Keywords go in by hand, from a file, or straight from keyword lists and Keyword Trends with the Operations button, as our Serpstat keyword research guide shows. As you add each keyword, set its target URL so mismatch tracking works from day one, and tag it by topic, intent or product line, because tags filter every report. Tag on day one. Retagging hundreds of keywords later is tedious.
Regions, devices and paid results
One project can track several regions, added under Search Regions and switched with a filter, and Rank Tracker covers countries, states and cities. Each region multiplies the checks, so track cities only where you really sell. You choose the SERP type per region: desktop or mobile organic, and desktop or mobile paid. Mobile rankings often differ for local and ecommerce queries. Track both devices for your top keywords and desktop only for the long tail. Paid tracking gives daily updates on your and competitors' ad keywords, configured in Search Regions and read in the Paid view of the Competitors report. It shows whether rivals bid on your brand.
Schedules, manual updates and competitors
Projects update on a schedule, and daily is the default promise of the plans. A less frequent schedule for low-priority keywords saves checks, so keep daily for keywords tied to revenue or that clients ask about. To update outside the schedule, select keywords, click Update Positions, confirm the credit cost and click Start Tracking. Use it after a big release or a Google update. Each manual run spends checks like a scheduled one. Competitors, by contrast, cost nothing: Serpstat lets you monitor unlimited competitor websites in a project without extra charge [3]. An agency can track ten rivals for every client at no extra cost.
Add a target URL and a tag to every keyword as you add it. The mismatch, URL and tag reports depend on them, and retagging later is tedious.
Reading Project Overview each morning
Project Overview is the main workspace, showing current positions, changes and visibility for all keywords. You can switch between your domain and tracked competitors, pick a date range and filter by tag. The quick filters are All, Without changes, Raised, Dropped, New, Lost and Out of top. Raised means an existing position improved, while New means the domain had no top-100 position before. Dropped, sorted by volume, is your morning to-do list. Three mini-charts per keyword show position history, snippet changes and a SERP volatility score called Storm. A high Storm value means the whole results page shifted, not just you. Check it before you panic.
Each keyword row also shows the page you expect to rank next to the page that actually does, and red highlighting means a mismatch, which signals cannibalization or misaligned optimization. Fix red rows on high-volume keywords first. They lose you the most clicks. SERP feature icons turn blue when your domain holds the feature and gray when another domain does. Gray icons are opportunities. Visibility is the share of total search visibility your domain captures across all project keywords in a region, and average position averages your best positions. Report visibility to clients. It moves more smoothly than single positions.
History: what moved, and who took your spot
Positions History is a table where each date becomes a column for every tracked keyword. You can switch to a competitor's domain, filter by tag or region, reverse the column order with Turn dates, and export the table. Empty cells mean no update ran that day or the domain was outside the top 100. A broad drop across unrelated keywords on one date points to an algorithm update. Since June 2026 the filter also has Entered Top 100 and Left Top 100 values for monthly reports. You can also delete ranking data for one date if a crawl failed, without touching the rest. Use that only for real failures, not to hide a bad day.
SERP History shows the complete top 100 for any tracked keyword on any monitoring date, organic results only. When a keyword drops, it answers the question clients ask first, who took the spot, because it shows the domains that moved up on the same date. Open those domains in Site Analysis to see what content or links they added, then check your own page. A cached snapshot of the real results page is kept only for the last 4 days of updates, after which only the table remains. If a drop matters, open the cached page within those four days.
Competitors, URLs and cannibalization
The Competitors report lists every domain that appeared in the top 100 for your project keywords, up to 100 per project, and charts up to 10 of them by traffic share, keyword count or average position. Some rivals there will surprise you. Traffic share is a domain's estimated share of traffic among all domains in the top 20 for at least 2 project keywords. Filter it by tag to see who leads one segment, because a niche leader in one tag is a competitor worth studying separately.
The URLs report compares the Target URL you set with the Actual URL in results, with filters for matched, mismatched and missing targets. Target URLs must be set manually for each keyword, and without them the mismatch filter has nothing to compare. Red Actual URLs often mean two of your pages compete for one keyword. Since August 2026 the API also offers detectUrlCannibalization, which returns severity, pattern and a canonical or 301 recommendation over 90 days. Sort mismatches by traffic and fix the top ten.
AI Overview tracking, at double cost
Since September 25, 2025 Rank Tracker tracks your visibility in Google's AI Overview on desktop and mobile, in Project Overview, Position History and Pages, and lets you compare organic and AI Overview rankings. Competitors and SERP History for AI Overview were listed as coming soon, and we could not confirm they are live. SERP Storm is not available for it because results shift too often. It matters most for informational keywords, where Google's AI box can take clicks even from a page ranking first, so seeing both positions side by side shows whether a traffic drop came from ranking or from the AI answer above it.
The catch is cost: "Each check consumes 2 credits per keyword/region due to dual Google requests" [4]. Budget for it before you switch it on across a large project. Track it only for keywords that show an AI Overview. The rest double the bill for nothing.
Moving in, and reporting out
Since December 2025 an Import Position History tab takes a CSV template, and since March 2026 it detects Semrush and Ahrefs export files automatically, so you keep years of history when you switch. Import before you add new keywords. For an agency taking over a client, a year of imported positions means the first monthly report already shows a trend instead of a flat line that starts the day the account moved. Serpstat also says its team helps move historical data from other services when you buy a plan, and the Rank Tracker page offers free project transfers. Ask for that help in writing.
Project Overview and Positions History export to CSV, XLS, XLSX or Google Sheets, and SERP History to CSV, XLS or XLSX, within monthly export rows capped by plan. Team includes 5 scheduled reports and Team x2 includes 10, and custom reports combine ranking data with backlinks and audits. Share access lets clients view projects without a paid seat, from 50 viewers on Team up to 500 on Agency, and Individual has none. For agencies, that alone justifies Team.
Automating it through the API and MCP
Rank Tracker read methods in the API return position and URL history and do not use credits. The real cost of tracking is the checks, not the reporting. Since April 2026 the API also manages projects, keywords, tags, regions, schedules and on-demand checks, and in August 2026 Serpstat added getProjectSummary, diffPositions, detectUrlCannibalization and getTagMetrics, which returns metrics for all tags in one call. An agency can now run rank tracking without opening the app. Through the MCP server, a plain question about how rankings changed this week comes back as a summary, and since reads are free, it costs almost nothing. Our Serpstat API guide covers the setup.
A Monday routine, and the mistakes to skip
The help center's routine takes two minutes: set the date range to 7 days, click Dropped, sort by volume, then check Storm on the top drops. A high Storm means the whole SERP moved. A low Storm means it was you. For the keywords that were you, open SERP History, compare the update before the drop with the one after, and work from there. When many keywords move at once, Serpstat's free SERP volatility checker shows the last 30 days of Search Engines Storm. The mistakes that waste checks or blind reports are predictable:
- Tracking every keyword on every device in every city.
- Forgetting target URLs, which blinds the mismatch report.
- Turning on AI Overview tracking for keywords with no AI Overview.
- Skipping tags, then retagging hundreds of keywords later.
- Waiting a month to look at Dropped.
How it compares with Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking and Mangools
Ahrefs Rank Tracker tracks 750 keywords on Lite, 2,000 on Standard and 5,000 on Advanced, and its pricing table lists weekly update frequency for all of them. Serpstat Team at Lite's monthly price tracks about 1,667 keywords daily. Mangools tracks weekly too, daily only on its Agency plan at $129 a month, while Serpstat tracks daily from Individual. For daily rankings on a small budget, Serpstat wins clearly. Teams fine with weekly data can stay with Ahrefs.
Semrush tracks 500 keywords daily on SEO and Starter, 1,500 on Pro+ and 5,000 on Advanced. Serpstat Team tracks about 1,667 a day for $129 against Semrush SEO's $139, though Semrush adds AI prompt tracking. SE Ranking is the closest call. Its Core plan tracks 2,000 keywords daily with Google top-100 tracking for $129 a month, so on pure tracking SE Ranking edges it. But Core comes with one manager seat and 10 projects, while Serpstat Team includes three users and unlimited projects, and those seats and projects usually decide it.
Competitors cost no checks, so an agency can track ten rivals for every client at no extra cost.

The bottom line
Serpstat Rank Tracker suits freelancers who need daily rankings for a few sites, agencies reporting to many clients, in-house teams watching revenue keywords and local businesses that need city-level tracking. It gives daily top-100 tracking from $50 a month billed annually, free competitors, free history imports and free API reads. Budget checks carefully, and run your own spot checks in the first week, since we did not test tracking accuracy against Google ourselves. Then import your history, set target URLs and tags, add competitors and turn on AI Overview only where it appears. If your old tool updated weekly, the first month of daily data will show you what you were missing.
