Tidio can run first-line support for a fintech, lender or payments company, but as the answering and routing layer, not the decision-maker. Lyro, its AI agent, answers from the policies and FAQs you load and hands anything it cannot settle to a person. Tidio's Terms bar investment advice without qualified human oversight and require Tidio's prior written consent before its AI is used for credit-worthiness decisions. For up to 10 agents, Growth starts at $59 a month billed monthly, or $49.17 a month billed annually, for 250 human-answered conversations. AI is billed separately. It fits FAQ-heavy retail support; it strains under enterprise procurement.

A day on the desk: what Lyro takes and what it hands back

The morning queue at a lender or card issuer is mostly repeat questions. Tidio's finance page says Lyro handles card limits, payment updates and account verification using data you define, and that you decide when a human takes over on loans, claims and account issues. Lyro answers only from the knowledge you give it, shows its sources, and transfers to an agent or creates a ticket when unsure. Handoff rules differ for online and offline hours. Custom audiences can force an instant handoff for segments you never want automated.

Loading knowledge is the real setup work: website URLs, manual Q&A, CSV files (500 entries per upload, 10,000 in total), PDFs ten at a time and a public Zendesk Help Center. One trap matters for approved wording. Re-syncing a website source replaces the Q&A it generated, and manual edits are lost. Keep approved answers as manual Q&A instead. Lyro also lists the questions it could not answer, a ready gap list for the policy team. On email, Lyro answers only the first message of a new thread.

The humans share one inbox. A conversation becomes billable only when an agent replies, so threads Lyro closes alone use no conversation quota. Free, Starter and Growth include 10 seats per project, enough for the nine agents Tidio's Borrowell case study describes before Lyro. Growth adds roles, custom permissions, macros and automatic assignment for chat and social. Departments, the natural split between disputes, collections and onboarding, need Plus. Ticket SLA policies set internal reply targets per ticket source. Customers never see them.

Keep approved wording as manual Q&A

Re-syncing a website source in Lyro replaces the Q&A it generated and drops manual edits, so store compliance-approved answers as manual Q&A entries.

Actions and Procedures: where answering turns into doing

Answering a policy question is low risk. Changing an account is not. Lyro Actions call your external APIs, with options to run in the background or ask the visitor to confirm first, plus logs and a test playground. The Terms put the weight on you: the customer sets the logic, supplies credentials and bears the results, and Tidio does not validate or roll back external changes. Tidio's finance page says Lyro can automate KYC checks and account setup. Read that as an Actions project your engineers build and own.

The limits are tight below Plus. Free, Starter and Growth allow one Action without a paid Lyro quota and three with one; Plus allows ten. Procedures, multi-step AI workflows for live conversations, run five on Starter, Growth or with paid Lyro, and ten on Plus. Guidance rules for tone and escalation stop at five below Plus. That covers a payment-date lookup and a card-freeze request. It does not cover a full servicing menu.

Tidio's case study says Rapyd runs Lyro inside its authenticated merchant portal, where Lyro identifies the merchant and unresolved cases reach Salesforce with the full transcript, drawing on 3,632 knowledge-base articles.[1] It reports a 42% resolution rate and 7,859 contacts in 30 days. Rapyd ran security and legal reviews from July 2024 before integrating, and Tidio built that integration as custom work. The packaged route onto an existing help desk is Lyro Connect, on Plus and Premium.

Borrowell took the help-desk route with Zendesk. Tidio's case study says the Canadian fintech trained Lyro on its Zendesk help-center articles and turns unresolved chats into Zendesk tickets with transcripts, reporting an 83% resolution rate and about 11,000 tickets a month.[2] Lyro also handles French conversations for its Quebec users. Check one thing first: Tidio's Zendesk integration asks for a Zendesk API token, while Zendesk stopped issuing new API tokens in October 2026. Confirm the connection method with Tidio.

What Tidio's AI Terms let a financial firm do

The Terms list retail banking FAQs among allowed uses. They also say the AI must not give professional investment advice without qualified human oversight, and that credit-worthiness decisions, a high-risk use, need Tidio's prior written consent.[3] Violations can suspend AI access. You must verify AI output and tell end users they are talking to an AI. So a lending bot can explain repayments, fees and statement dates. It should hand off should I consolidate and will I be approved every time.

Tidio says Lyro runs on Anthropic's Claude plus its own models. The AI annex lists OpenAI and Google Cloud with EU hosting and Anthropic with US hosting as sub-processors, and bars them from training their foundation models on your data. Tidio may use aggregated, anonymised data to tune performance unless you opt out through support. Its liability for AI features is capped at the AI fees paid in the prior 12 months. Risk teams will ask for exactly these points.

⚠️
Watch out
Credit decisions need Tidio's consent

Tidio's Terms treat credit-worthiness decisions as a high-risk AI use that needs Tidio's prior written consent, and investment advice needs qualified human oversight.

⚠️
Watch out
No uptime commitment in the Terms

Tidio's Terms state no uptime commitment and exclude AI-provider downtime; a public status page with email and Slack alerts is offered instead.

Security and data questions for procurement

Tidio says it completed a SOC 2 Type II examination, with the report and a pentest letter on request through its Trust Center. It lists TLS 1.2 or later in transit, AES-256 at rest and encrypted backups, and a GDPR data processing agreement is part of the Terms. Data is mainly processed in the EEA on AWS, but the privacy policy says it may be transferred to the United States under the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Tidio publishes no hosting-region choice. It is not a HIPAA business associate.

SAML SSO with Force SSO Premium
Audit log, SCIM, IP restriction Not published

Access control is where the plan ladder bites. Two-factor authentication is available, but SAML SSO is a Premium feature, and Tidio does not publish an audit log, SCIM provisioning or IP restriction. Records need a plan too: transcripts export one at a time as CSV, with no batch download, and deleting a contact erases its history. The Terms state no uptime commitment and exclude AI-provider downtime. A public status page with email and Slack alerts is the substitute. Weigh that before Lyro becomes your only front door.

Channels: WhatsApp rules and the reminder you cannot send

Live chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp come on every plan. There is no native SMS or phone channel. WhatsApp gives each number 1,000 free outgoing messages a month, counting agent, Lyro and Flows replies; above that, paid plans are billed at Meta's local rate with no Tidio markup, while Free and trial projects stop at 1,000. Free-form replies work only within 24 hours of the customer's last message. After that, only Meta-approved templates, which need Growth or higher.

The catch for lenders is outreach. Tidio cannot start a WhatsApp conversation with a new contact, and templates go only into existing conversations, so a payment reminder to a borrower who never wrote in is out of scope. Rule-based Flows cover the website instead. Tidio's case study says Sound Royalties, a US music-royalty financing firm, ran on Flows alone and reports a 54% engagement rate with its FAQ bots and 3.2% of website traffic converted to leads.

What it costs at fintech volumes

Starter is $29 a month billed monthly, or $24.17 a month billed annually, for 100 human-answered conversations; the largest Growth tier is $349 a month billed monthly for 2,000.[4] Lyro is a separate quota, from $39 a month billed monthly or $32.50 a month billed annually for 50 Lyro conversations. The 50 free Lyro conversations come once per project. Lyro bills each conversation it joins, not each resolution. Pay-per-resolution exists only on Premium.

By our arithmetic, a desk with 250 human-answered and 500 AI conversations a month pays $409 a month billed monthly, or $340.83 a month billed annually ($4,090 a year). At 1,000 human conversations with the same AI quota, the total is $529 billed monthly or $440.83 a month billed annually ($5,290 a year). A volume like Borrowell's lands on Plus or Premium, priced by sales. Automatic upgrades and the no-refund rule are covered in the buyer's checklist.

Rivals count AI differently: Zendesk, Help Scout and LiveChat (now sold to new customers as Text plans) charge per resolution and Freshdesk per session, so no single cheaper verdict holds. Our Tidio alternatives guide compares them on their own units, and the Tidio AI playbook covers Lyro setup step by step. Price your own mix in a pilot first.

Yes. The 7-day trial needs no credit card and includes every paid Customer Service, Lyro and Flows feature, then moves the account to the Free plan with no charge; extra trial time can be requested from support.

Does Tidio offer phone support to admins?+

The bottom line

Tidio suits a fintech or lending support team of up to 10 agents whose queue is mostly repeat questions about fees, cards, payments and verification. Lyro answers those from approved content and hands the rest to people, and the Terms already draw the line at advice and credit decisions. It suits a security review that stops at SOC 2 Type II, a DPA and roles. Look elsewhere if procurement requires SSO below the top tier, an audit log, SCIM, a hosting-region choice or an uptime commitment, or if your customers call.
