Tidio goes onto a website in one of three ways: a single line of JavaScript pasted above the closing body tag, the WordPress plugin (which also serves WooCommerce), or a marketplace app on Shopify and BigCommerce. Wix now takes the same snippet through Custom Code, and that route needs a paid Wix plan and a connected domain. The rule that prevents most broken installs is simple. Use one install method per site, never the plugin and the snippet together. Installing costs nothing, because the platform integrations are listed on every Tidio plan, Free included. What changes by plan is what the integration does once it is in place.
Start with the snippet, then decide whether a plugin adds anything
The manual install is the universal one. In the Tidio panel, Settings > Live Chat > Installation shows one line of code; paste it above the closing body tag of your page template, save, and the widget appears in the lower right corner by default. Tidio says the setup takes about five minutes. If someone else edits your site, the account screen offers to email the instructions and the code to a developer. Most platforms further down are really snippet installs with a different paste location.
A plugin or app earns its place only when it connects store data. On WordPress the plugin links WooCommerce products; on Shopify the app brings orders, carts and customer records into the inbox. On a plain brochure site, the snippet and the plugin show the same widget. Choose by what you sell. One account detail matters before you start: logging in to an existing Tidio account from inside the plugin works only on WordPress, while Shopify allows one account created through the platform itself.
WordPress and WooCommerce: one plugin covers both
On WordPress, install and activate the Tidio Live Chat & AI Chatbots plugin, then register a free Tidio account or log in to an existing one. WordPress.org listed it at 70,000+ active installs in November 2026. The plugin is a connector: conversations are answered in the Tidio panel or its mobile apps, not inside wp-admin. Tidio's own guide says the plugin can show or hide the chat on chosen pages with shortcodes, limit it by country or hide it on mobile.
If the chat does not appear, open the site in an incognito window, clear the cache and pause caching plugins such as W3 Total Cache for a moment. If you prefer the snippet on WordPress, it goes into footer.php above the closing body tag, and only after the plugin is gone. Tidio warns against running the plugin and the snippet together. Check that first whenever a widget shows up twice or not at all after a site change.
If the Tidio chat does not appear on WordPress, Tidio suggests an incognito window, a cleared cache and a temporary pause of caching plugins such as W3 Total Cache.
WooCommerce uses the same plugin. When Tidio asks, click Integrate Now and approve read access to your products. Agents can then send product cards from the inbox, which works only with the official plugin and only for products that have an SKU and Active status. Lyro product recommendations go further, with add-to-cart cards inside the conversation, but they need the WooCommerce connection, Lyro switched on and a paid Lyro quota or the 7-day trial. Tidio's own WordPress guide lists order and cart actions in chat as native on Shopify only.
Shopify: install the app, then switch on the App embed
Find Tidio in the Shopify App Store, add and install the app, and you land in the Tidio panel. The widget stays invisible until you open Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds and switch it on.[1] Themes are the catch. Every theme change needs the App embed switched on again. Shopify accepts one install method at a time, the app or the JavaScript code. An existing Tidio account can still be added by pasting the snippet into theme.liquid: Shopify Flows and automations keep working, but billing then runs directly through Tidio.
The app is where stores get the most from Tidio. It shows a visitor's orders in the panel during a chat, imports Tidio contacts as store customers, tracks abandoned carts without code, and unlocks five Shopify-only Flows nodes, including Check Order Status and Coupon Code, plus an add-to-cart trigger. Acting on orders is a plan gate. Cancelling unfulfilled orders with refund, restock and customer notice, submitting refunds and editing shipping addresses from the inbox all start on Growth. The selling side is covered in Tidio for ecommerce.
Growth starts at $59 a month billed monthly, or $49.17 a month billed annually, for 250 billable conversations and 10 seats on one project.[2] Lyro starts at $39 a month billed monthly, or $32.50 a month billed annually, for 50 Lyro conversations a month, and that paid quota is what unlocks product recommendations. The 7-day trial needs no card, includes them, and moves the account to Free with no charge when it ends. Recommendations also need a valid store schema and may not display for products with descriptions under 10 characters.
On Shopify the Tidio widget must be switched on again under Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds every time the theme changes.
Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce and the script platforms
Wix changed the most. Since September 2024 the Tidio app is no longer supported directly through Wix.[3] The install now goes through Settings > Advanced > Custom Code, with the snippet placed in Body – End, and it needs a paid Wix plan (any, even Light) and a connected domain. Accounts created through the old Wix app before October 2024 should move to a new Tidio account to buy premium plans; cancel the Wix subscription, and Wix handles any refund. Some Flow pieces, such as buttons, card messages and conditions, do not work on Wix.
Squarespace takes the snippet in Settings > Advanced > Code Injection, in the Footer field, and Tidio notes that availability can vary by Squarespace plan and theme. BigCommerce is the other app install: add Tidio from the BigCommerce Marketplace, confirm the permissions and create the account inside the app. Outside Shopify, abandoned-cart tracking is not a switch. A developer adds a script calling tidioChatApi.track after the chat install script. CRM and email connections are in our integrations guide.
| Platform | Method | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Adobe Commerce (Magento) | Script | Content > Design > Configuration, HTML Head; then refresh the cache |
| Drupal | Script | header.tpl.php or html.tpl.php before the closing head tag, via FTP |
| Joomla | Script | index.php of the default template, before the closing head tag |
| Weebly | Script | SEO > Header Code; single pages through each page's SEO settings |
| Jimdo (Creator pages only) | Script | Edit Head |
| Shift4Shop | Script | frame.html, above the closing head tag |
| Ecwid (paid Ecwid plan) | Script | Website > SEO header meta tags |
| PrestaShop | Free HTMLbox module | After disabling the HTML purifier in Shop Parameters > General |
| OpenCart | Script only | The App Market plugin is being sunset |
| Shopware | Script tag | Added as a Custom Asset |
| Webydo | Tidio Chat element | Linked with the project Public Key |
| Site123 | Plugin | Public Key in the Application id field |
One chat on several sites, or only on some pages
Two setups exist. Paste the same snippet on several sites and they share one widget: appearance, behavior settings, agents and panel settings are common, and every site feeds a single panel. Plugin installs create a separate account instead. The alternative is several projects under one account, each with its own widget, configuration, plan and billing. Each project bills separately. Notifications cover only the project you are viewing, although Plus customers can request a one-inbox tab for all their projects. Share one widget when the sites look alike; split into projects when branding differs.
By default the widget appears on any domain where the code runs, and the Trusted domains option limits it to the domains you list. Widget settings can hide the chat on pages by contained or exact URL match, filter by country and treat desktop and mobile separately; the widget can also disappear whenever all agents are offline. Showing it only on a few chosen pages is the reverse case and needs a short script using tidioChatApi show and hide, matching URLs by contained string. Styling and placement are covered in our widget guide.
Uninstalling without a leftover bill
Order matters here. Cancel every paid plan under Settings > Billing before removing the widget.[4] Cancelling stops further charges and keeps paid features until the period ends, then the project moves to Free. Tidio's Terms owe no refunds for unused time, and a discretionary refund is capped at three months. Then remove the install the way it went in. On WordPress, deactivating the plugin only hides the chat, so delete it. On Shopify, switch off the App embed first, because removing the app does not necessarily remove theme code.
Hiding is not uninstalling. The Display toggle hides the widget on desktop and mobile without touching the code, which suits a pause. Deleting a project is final: only the owner can do it, after cancelling the subscription and uninstalling the widget, and it removes the project, its agents and the collected data. Store data needs one more step. To remove customers' order data fully, uninstall the store app as well; Tidio says Shopify customer data is not sent to it by default.
Deactivating the Tidio WordPress plugin only hides the chat, and removing the Shopify app may leave theme code behind. Cancel paid Tidio plans under Settings > Billing before you uninstall.
Frequently asked questions
Can I install Tidio on Webflow?+
Tidio lists Webflow in its website-builder integrations directory. Where a platform has no dedicated guide, Tidio's general method is the one-line JavaScript snippet pasted above the closing body tag.
Where do I find my Tidio Public Key?+
The Developer settings in the Tidio panel show the project Public Key. Platforms such as Webydo and Site123 ask for it instead of the full snippet, and Tidio support asks for it when you report a widget problem to support@tidio.net.
Who helps if the Tidio Shopify app breaks?+
Tidio. Its Terms say Tidio alone is responsible for the app and that Shopify cannot assist with its installation or use.
Can I test the store features before paying?+
Yes. Tidio's 7-day trial needs no card, covers the paid features including Lyro product recommendations, and moves the project to the Free plan with no charge when it ends.
The bottom line
Installing Tidio is the easy part: one snippet, one plugin or one app per site, and never two at once. Costly decisions come after. Shopify order actions need Growth, product recommendations need a paid Lyro quota, and every extra project carries its own subscription. Wix sites need a paid Wix plan and a connected domain before the Custom Code install works. Uninstall in the right order, billing first and code second, and nothing lingers on the site or on the card you pay with.
