The short answer: Tidio prices conversations, Zendesk prices people

About these prices

Prices shown are what Tidio lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT.

Tidio vs Zendesk comes down to what makes your bill grow. Tidio charges one price per project (one website or widget setup) per month, sized by billable conversations, the ones a human agent answers, with 10 seats included on Free, Starter and Growth.[1] Zendesk charges per agent per month, and every agent, admin and suspended agent takes a paid seat. By our arithmetic, Tidio Growth 1,000 costs less than Zendesk Suite Team from three agents on either billing term. Zendesk answers with depth. Suite Team already has native voice. SLA policies, skills-based routing and several help centers start on Suite Professional, which Zendesk's pricing page lists at $115 per agent a month billed annually or $149 billed monthly. Pick by team shape, not brand.

The split is clean in practice. A small team that lives in website chat, social messages and WhatsApp, and wants AI it can cap with a quota, gets more for less from Tidio. A team that needs phones, contractual reply targets, routing by skill and room to grow past 10 agents without a sales call is buying what Zendesk is built for. The rest of this comparison puts numbers on that line.

⚠️
Watch out
Tidio's quota stops new conversations

When a Tidio project reaches 100% of its monthly billable conversations, agents cannot see or answer new ones until the monthly reset or an upgrade.

What 3 and 10 agents cost on each

Zendesk's pricing page lists Support Team at $19 per agent per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, Suite Team at $55 or $69, and Suite Professional at $115 or $149, with Suite Enterprise quote-only.[2] Support Team covers email ticketing and public social channels only, with no live chat, messaging, help center or voice, so a team shopping for chat starts at Suite Team. Every Zendesk seat is paid, and seat cuts or downgrades wait for the next billing cycle with no prorated refund.

Tidio Starter costs $29 a month billed monthly, or $24.17 a month billed annually ($290 a year), for 100 billable conversations. Growth starts at $59 a month billed monthly, or $49.17 a month billed annually, for 250 conversations; the 2,000-conversation tier is $349 a month billed monthly. A conversation counts once, however many messages it holds, and only when a human replies or starts it. Past 10 seats, Tidio lists Plus from $300 a month plus monthly usage, sold through sales.

For three agents, by our arithmetic, Zendesk Suite Team runs $207 a month billed monthly or $165 billed annually, while Tidio Growth 250 is $59 a month billed monthly or $49.17 billed annually. Against Suite Team, Growth 250 is cheaper from the first agent. For ten agents, Suite Team comes to $690 a month billed monthly or $550 billed annually, against $179 or $149.17 for Tidio Growth 1,000. The threshold is three agents: with one or two agents handling about 1,000 human conversations a month, Suite Team costs less than Growth 1,000.

Toolkit tip
Count human-answered conversations first

Take last month's conversations an agent actually replied to or started. That number, not your headcount, picks your Tidio tier; Lyro-only or Flows-only chats do not count.

Tidio's caveats are real, though. Its three meters (conversations, Lyro AI and Flows), automatic upgrades on monthly packages and the rule that agents cannot see new conversations at 100% of quota are all covered in our Tidio pricing guide. Volume moves the Tidio bill. Headcount moves the Zendesk bill. Teams with few agents and heavy chat traffic should run both formulas before trusting a headline price.

AI: a Lyro conversation is not a Zendesk resolution

The AI meters measure different events. Lyro bills per conversation it joins, counted the first time it answers, and a thread closes after 15 minutes of inactivity, so a later message starts a new count.[3] It is not billed per resolution; pay-per-resolution exists only on Premium. Every project gets 50 free Lyro conversations once, never refreshed. After that, Lyro starts at $39 a month billed monthly, or $32.50 a month billed annually, for 50 conversations, up to 1,000 at $700 or $583.33. Conversations Lyro handles alone do not use billable conversations.

Zendesk includes AI agents in every Suite and Support plan and charges per automated resolution: a request the AI resolves without escalation to a human, verified by an LLM. Support Team and Suite Team include 5 per agent a month and Suite Professional 10; extra resolutions cost $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Included resolutions do not roll over. An assisted escalation, where a human finishes the job, does not count.

Take ten agents, 1,000 human conversations and 500 AI conversations a month, billed annually. By our arithmetic, Tidio comes to $149.17 plus $291.67 for 500 Lyro conversations, or $440.83 a month, while Zendesk Suite Team comes to $550 plus 450 extra resolutions beyond the 50 included: $1,225 committed or $1,450 pay-as-you-go. The units differ. Tidio counts every conversation in which Lyro answers at least once, even if a human finishes it, though nothing is deducted when Lyro hands off immediately; Zendesk counts the requests its AI resolves without a human. Measure your own resolution share before calling either one cheaper.

Agent-side AI splits the same way. Zendesk Copilot is a $50 per agent per month add-on, paid yearly, for all agent seats on Suite Professional and above. Tidio lists Copilot and an AI reply assistant on every plan, Free included; Copilot needs Lyro enabled and data sources connected. Tidio also offers a free Copilot extension for Chrome that works inside Zendesk, provided you have a Tidio project.

Toolkit tip
Test both AIs on the same questions

Run Lyro during Tidio's 7-day trial and Zendesk's AI agent during its 14-day trial on the same set of real customer questions. Compare how many conversations each joins against how many it actually resolves.

Channels and help desk depth

Tidio Zendesk
Pricing unit Per project, by billable conversations Per agent per month
Live chat Every plan, Free included Suite Team and up
WhatsApp Every plan Suite Team and up, five numbers included
Voice No native phone channel Native telephony from Suite Team
SLA policies Internal ticket reply targets Suite Professional and up
Free plan Yes No, 14-day trial

Zendesk Suite Team adds messaging and live chat, telephony with voicemail and call routing to groups, one help center in one language, and omnichannel routing. It lacks SLA policies, skills-based routing, multiple ticket forms, community forums and a multilingual help center. Those start on Suite Professional, which also allows up to 5 help centers in 40+ languages and custom reports. Zendesk also serves employee service such as IT and HR, and its voice usage is billed separately from the seat price.

Tidio's inbox takes live chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp on every plan with no per-channel fee. Each WhatsApp number gets 1,000 free outgoing messages a month; beyond that, paid plans pay Meta's rates, billed by Tidio at month end. There is no native SMS or phone channel. Live video calls in the widget offer a voice-only option. Growth adds macros, permissions, advanced analytics and automatic assignment, which covers live chat and social while emails stay unassigned. Plus includes departments and ticketing automations. Ticket SLA policies exist as internal reply targets.

The Zendesk integration, the token change and running both

Plenty of teams keep both tools. Tidio's Zendesk integration works on every Tidio plan, Free included, and lets an agent create a Zendesk ticket from a Tidio conversation with the transcript, contact details and a priority. It connects with a Zendesk API token.[4] Zendesk, for its part, stopped every account from creating new API tokens in October 2026 and ends all Support API tokens in April 2027, moving integrations to OAuth. Confirm the connection method with Tidio before you plan around it.

Lyro can also sit on top of Zendesk. Lyro Connect, on Plus and Premium, runs Lyro over an existing help desk and opens a ticket there when it cannot answer. Any Tidio user can import public Zendesk Help Center articles as Lyro knowledge; ticket imports need Tidio's team and a paid Lyro quota. Tidio's case study says Borrowell kept Zendesk for ticketing, sent unresolved Lyro chats there with transcripts, and reached an 83% Lyro resolution rate. Tidio's Jiffy case study reports a 70% AI resolution rate alongside Zendesk.

Moving fully is a Plus job on Tidio. Ticket migration from Zendesk is a service for Plus subscribers, and so is ticket import. Developer access mostly follows the same gate: Tidio's full OpenAPI, webhooks and Analytics API need Plus or Premium, though the OpenAPI product endpoints also work with any paid Lyro quota. Zendesk opens its API and webhooks from Support Team, at 200 requests a minute. For a team that wants AI on its chat but cannot justify Plus, running Tidio on the front line and Zendesk for escalated tickets is an option only once Tidio confirms how its Zendesk connection works after the token change.

⚠️
Watch out
Check how Tidio connects to Zendesk

Tidio's Zendesk integration asks for a Zendesk API token, while Zendesk stopped new tokens in October 2026 and ends all Support API tokens in April 2027. Confirm the connection method with Tidio before relying on it.

Who should pick which

Choose Tidio if your team has ten people or fewer, most contact arrives through website chat, social messages or WhatsApp, and monthly human-answered volume stays at 2,000 or below. Start free and grow by conversations. Ecommerce teams also get native Shopify actions (order cancellations, refunds, address edits) on Growth. Tidio's own posts say it is not an IT service desk, and it has no native phone line.

Choose Zendesk if you need native voice, which starts on Suite Team, or SLA policies with reporting, skills-based routing and several help centers, which start on Suite Professional. It also fits employee service, or more than ten agents bought without a sales call. Suite Team wins on price for one or two agents carrying heavy volume, but it lacks SLA policies and skills routing. Both trials skip the card: Tidio runs 7 days and then drops to Free, while Zendesk runs 14 days, mostly on Suite Professional, and trial data is lost unless you buy or export. Neither owes routine refunds: Zendesk refunds prepaid fees only in its Customer Agreement's listed cases, and Tidio may grant discretionary ones capped at three months.

Read the ratings as signals of fit, not a verdict. Tidio's Trustpilot complaints cluster around billing and support, so read the automatic-upgrade setting at checkout. Before you commit, our Zendesk review covers its plans in full, and our Tidio alternatives guide covers the other per-agent and per-ticket options.

Frequently asked questions

Do unanswered chats count against Tidio's conversation quota?+

No. Tidio counts a conversation only when a human agent replies or starts it, once however many messages it holds; unanswered visitor messages and conversations Lyro or Flows handle alone are not billable.

Does a suspended Zendesk agent still cost a seat?+

Yes: every Zendesk agent, admin, the owner and suspended agents use a paid seat, and seat reductions take effect at the next billing cycle with no prorated refund. Light agents take no paid seat, but only Suite Professional (up to 100) and Suite Enterprise (up to 1,000) include them; Support Team and Suite Team need an add-on with no published price. Contributors are free.

Which handles multilingual support better?+

Tidio's help lists 48 languages for Lyro's answers. Zendesk translates its agent interface into 28 languages and offers a multilingual help center in 40+ languages from Suite Professional.

Does Tidio work with Zendesk Sell?+

Yes, on every Tidio plan, but agents send leads to Zendesk Sell manually; there is no automatic sync. Zendesk retires Sell in August 2027.

The bottom line

Tidio and Zendesk price opposite things. Tidio's per-project, per-conversation bill with 10 seats included is far lighter for small chat-first teams, and from three agents it undercuts Zendesk Suite Team at 1,000 conversations. Zendesk costs more per head but brings native voice from Suite Team, then SLAs, skills routing and several help centers from Suite Professional, with room to scale agents without sales. Count your human-answered conversations and your agents, run both formulas, and test each AI on real questions during the trials.
