The short answer: TikTok work belongs in the phone app
CapCut for TikTok works best in one place: the mobile app on iOS or Android. Only the phone app opens templates handed off from TikTok, keeps TikTok anchor points fully working, and posts back to TikTok with the template attribution intact[1]. CapCut Desktop and CapCut Online still edit well, but there you export an MP4 and upload it to TikTok yourself, neither reaches TikTok's official sound library, and audio added on Web can be muted. The Free plan covers most short-form editing. Pro earns its place when you want premium templates and effects without a watermark, or Auto Reframe. Start on the phone. Move to a bigger screen only for heavier edits.

| Anchor-point templates | Full | Partial (launched from TikTok Web) | No |
| TikTok templates in the gallery | Yes, with search | No search, a few official templates | Curated gallery, no TikTok templates |
| TikTok-cleared sounds | Use TikTok sound labels | No TikTok sound library | Not integrated, can be muted |
| Auto Cut | Yes (regional rollout) | Yes | No |
| Teleprompter | Yes | No | No |
The grid explains many of the problems CapCut's help center addresses. People edit on a laptop, then wonder why the template link, the sound or the posting button is missing. Those are platform limits, not bugs. Your subscription does follow you: Pro bought on any platform applies on Mobile, Desktop and Web, so picking a surface is about features, not about paying twice.
From a TikTok template to your own post
The handoff starts on TikTok. The Use template in CapCut button works only with the CapCut mobile app, and some templates are region-restricted, for example to mainland China or Southeast Asia, so a template you see in a video may not open for you. Some paid or trending templates appear only in select regions such as the US, India and Brazil. New templates and trending effects ship to mobile first. Desktop shows a curated subset, often weeks or months later, or never. CapCut Web shows only editorial-approved or evergreen templates with no personalized feed.
Anchor-point templates need extra care. They are fully supported on mobile, partially supported on Desktop when the template is launched from TikTok Web, and not supported on Web at all. The sync is fragile: deleting, trimming or replacing the original audio track breaks the anchors. Keep the template's sound and swap only the clips and text. If you want different music, build the edit from scratch.
A video built from another user's public template is a remake, and the Post as Remake toggle on export is on by default on mobile. Duplicating the project with Save as New Project removes the remake flag. Remakes cannot be hidden, only deleted permanently, with no recovery. Posting a remake needs a signed-in account that meets the age rules, usually 18+ depending on region. CapCut says remade videos are yours to use, share or monetize, subject to its Terms of Service and third-party asset licenses. Publishing your own templates is a mobile feature for verified creators in select regions, the US included; our CapCut templates guide covers the rules.
Anchor-point templates lose sync when you delete, trim or replace the original audio track. Swap clips and text, and leave the sound alone.
Linking TikTok, posting, and the login trap
Account linking unlocks three things: direct publishing, draft sync and TikTok templates. All three work only in the CapCut mobile app on iOS and Android, and only one TikTok account can be linked to a CapCut account at a time[2]. That matters for anyone posting to several TikTok accounts. The mobile app can switch between CapCut accounts from Settings, then Switch accounts, without logging out, so separate brand accounts each need their own CapCut login.
On a computer the route is longer. CapCut Web exports an MP4 that you upload to TikTok by hand, and Desktop saves every export locally, with no direct posting and no remake posting. For Desktop uploads, CapCut's help advises MP4 with AAC audio at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. A workable split: edit long or complex pieces on Desktop, sync the project, and finish template-based work on the phone. Desktop can edit template projects synced from mobile, but it cannot publish them. Syncing runs through cloud space, though, and newly created free spaces get little or no free cloud storage, while a full cloud blocks further syncing. On Free, exporting the MP4 and uploading it is the dependable route.
The login method is the trap. CapCut treats every sign-in method (TikTok, Google, email, Facebook, Apple ID, or a phone number in the US) as a separate account, even when the email address is identical. A subscription bought under one method does not show under another. That is a common cause of I paid but have no Pro; the help center lists it next to region blocks, an outdated app and sync delays. Choose one method and use it everywhere. TikTok sign-in works on Mobile, Desktop and Web, which makes it the easy pick for creators.
Why TikTok mutes some CapCut videos
Sound is where TikTok posts fail quietly. CapCut Web does not integrate with TikTok's licensed music library, so TikTok treats all audio added there as user-generated and can mute it[3]. CapCut Desktop cannot reach the official TikTok sound library either. On mobile, pick tracks labelled Use TikTok sound, which CapCut says are pre-cleared for TikTok, and look for the Commercial use allowed label. For music-led posts, add the sound on the phone, even if the cut was made on a computer.
Branded content and ads raise the bar. CapCut's legal page allows commercial use, such as brand promotions and social media content, only for templates and materials expressly labelled Commercial Use, and text panels have a filter that hides everything else. A tool page that calls its short-clip features free, commercial use included, is marketing; the legal page decides. Licensing can also change after you post. When CapCut has no agreement with a track's rights holder, it removes or mutes the sound in videos and templates, and removed music vanishes even from saved projects. Export finished videos promptly.
CapCut Web isn't tied to TikTok's licensed music library, so TikTok treats its audio as user-generated and can mute it. Add music on mobile from tracks labelled Use TikTok sound.
The short-form tools that matter, by surface
Auto captions run on Web, Desktop and Mobile. They are free to start on CapCut Web, though some caption features may need Pro. CapCut lists 20+ languages and one-click bilingual captions that translate the spoken track. Keep each recognition to about 15 minutes; longer videos time out, so split them into parts of 10 minutes or less. Only auto-generated captions export, as SRT or TXT; manually typed text does not. CapCut names auto captions, AutoCut, voice filters and text to speech as its most-used AI features of 2025.
Auto Cut trims and syncs clips to music beats, speech pauses or a text prompt. It runs on Mobile and Desktop, not on Web. On mobile it needs version 12.0 or later, sits under Templates, then AI Creation, and is still rolling out by region. It works only on projects started from scratch or from raw clips, so it may not appear while you edit a downloaded template.
For repurposing, CapCut's long-video-to-short and clip-maker tool pages take uploads from Google Drive, Dropbox or local storage, resize clips to 9:16 with subject tracking, and caption them in 20+ languages. The pages promise sharing straight to TikTok. Since direct posting is a mobile-app feature, plan to share from the mobile app, or export and upload. The long-to-short page itself says to check availability in the editor.
Auto Reframe, the AI crop that follows the subject, moved to Pro on 3 April 2026 on all surfaces; basic crop and zoom stay free. The Teleprompter exists only in the mobile app and only while recording. One export detail surprises people: the 9:16 TikTok preset can lock resolution to 1080p, and CapCut may downgrade to 1080p as a performance safeguard. Plan for 1080p.
Templates add a CapCut ending clip with the logo. Delete it from the end of the timeline before export to post without it.
What Free covers, and when Pro pays
Free goes further than its reputation. A project built from free assets in the standard editor exports without a watermark. Templates add a CapCut ending clip, which you can delete from the end of the timeline before export. Any Pro-marked asset, such as a premium template, effect, filter, transition or sticker, blocks the export or watermarks it until you subscribe or remove it. Mobile exports longer than 15 minutes trigger the Pro prompt, a limit that varies by region and rarely touches TikTok clips. CapCut lists 4K and 60 fps export among Pro features, a weak reason to upgrade when the TikTok preset can lock exports to 1080p.
CapCut's US pricing page lists Pro, per account, at $19.99 a month billed monthly, with 1,200 monthly AI credits, all premium templates and 1 TB of storage[4]. Those figures are for reference only, since the final price appears after sign-in and varies by region, device and promotion, and subscription credits never roll over; our CapCut pricing guide covers both. CapCut's US pricing page also has a Yearly tab, but like the monthly figures it is labelled reference-only and CapCut runs time-limited yearly offers, so we don't quote a yearly price; check the Yearly tab after you sign in. Twelve months at the listed monthly figure come to $239.88 a year billed monthly by our arithmetic.
The decision is about habits. If most of your posts lean on premium templates, premium effects or Auto Reframe, Pro removes the watermark and the locks. If you cut clips from your own footage with free assets, Free is enough. In selected regions, new users who never had Pro (app version 8.20 or later) may see a 7-day free trial on mobile; the store account is charged after seven days unless you cancel. On a phone, Pro is paid through the App Store or Google Play.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use CapCut for TikTok on an iPad?+
CapCut for iPad is a Beta that is not in the US App Store before its official launch. In the US, CapCut's help suggests CapCut Online in Safari or Chrome, and the iPhone app also runs on iPad in a scaled-up compatibility mode.
Can I edit on my computer and post from my phone?+
Yes, with conditions. One CapCut account works on up to 5 devices at once, and QR-code login links Desktop or Web to the signed-in mobile app, but projects sync through cloud space, and newly created free spaces get little or no free cloud storage. Sign in with the same login method everywhere, or the projects and the subscription will not follow you. Posting to TikTok happens in the phone app; otherwise export the MP4 and upload it yourself.
Does TikTok see that a clip was made with CapCut AI?+
CapCut says its AI outputs carry visible AI labels, invisible watermarks and C2PA Content Credentials. Plan on AI-generated clips being identifiable as AI content.
The bottom line
CapCut is a strong TikTok editor as long as you treat the phone app as home base. Templates from TikTok, anchor points, licensed sounds, direct posting and the Teleprompter all live there. Desktop and Web are export-and-upload editors without TikTok's sound library, and audio added on Web can be muted. Pick one login method, link one TikTok account, keep template sounds intact, and use only Commercial Use assets in branded posts. Stay on Free while your edits use free assets; move to Pro when premium templates, effects or Auto Reframe become part of your weekly routine.
