The right CapCut alternative depends on the part of CapCut you are replacing. Canva suits design-led social video, Filmora suits desktop and phone editing, and DaVinci Resolve and Clipchamp are the strongest free editors. Recorded talk suits Descript or Riverside, and browser teams suit VEED or Vimeo. Hold every rival against one figure. CapCut's US pricing page lists Pro at $19.99 a month billed monthly per account, with 1,200 monthly AI credits and 1 TB of storage [1]. That is a reference figure, because CapCut shows the final price only after sign-in and tests promotions on selected accounts (CapCut pricing).

What a CapCut replacement has to match

CapCut is one account across the mobile app, the Windows and macOS desktop app and the web editor, on up to 5 devices at once, with Pro applying everywhere. Templates, auto captions, text to speech and a credit-based AI layer sit on top. Check the surfaces first. Filmora has desktop and phone apps, VEED pairs its browser editor with iOS and Android apps, and Descript has no mobile editing app.

The free tier sets the second bar. On CapCut, a project built from free assets in the standard editor exports without a watermark, templates add a deletable CapCut ending clip, and any Pro-marked asset locks or watermarks the export [2]. CapCut lists 4K and 60 fps export among Pro features, and CapCut Desktop locks them for free users. Clipchamp's free plan exports without a watermark up to 1080p, while Descript, Riverside, VEED and Filmora watermark free exports.

Plan the exit. CapCut does not import or export project files with third-party editors, so you leave with rendered MP4 or MOV files, not editable timelines. It can also remove licensed music from saved projects without notice, so export finished work before you switch. Subscription credits vanish when the plan ends, and cancellation runs through the store you bought from, at least 24 hours before renewal (how to cancel CapCut).

Store ratings reflect daily editing, and Trustpilot draws mostly unhappy customers, so read it as a map of complaints rather than a trend. Pick by job, not by score. Commercial rights need a fresh check too. On CapCut, only templates and materials labelled Commercial Use may be used commercially [3], and every rival below has its own rule to read before you run ads.

💡
Toolkit tip
Test the free export first

Export one real project on the rival's free tier at the resolution you publish. Watermarks, 720p caps and 10-minute limits show up there, not on the pricing page.

Phone-first and template editing: Canva, Filmora, InShot

Canva

Canva is a design-first suite that also edits video, with Veo 3 generation and Beat Sync, for teams whose clips sit next to social graphics. Canva Free gives you 5 GB and up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses a month. Canva Pro lists $18 a month billed monthly or $144 a year for one person, with about 200 Premium or 20 Ultra AI uses a month. Canva Business lists $25 per user a month billed monthly or $250 per user a year per person, with no seat minimum, 500 GB and about 400 Premium or 40 Ultra AI uses a month. Standard AI tools don't count on paid plans, nothing is pooled, and yearly Business plans are invoiced every three months (CapCut vs Canva).

Filmora

Filmora runs on Windows, macOS, iOS, iPadOS and Android, which matters because CapCut for iPad is a Beta outside the US App Store. The free version watermarks exports. Basic is a yearly subscription with 4K export and no watermark; Perpetual is a one-time purchase limited to Filmora 16 updates and tied to either Windows or Mac. We leave out both figures because the shop showed sale prices. AI images, stickers and text-to-video output are non-commercial, and Filmora offers a 30-day money-back guarantee subject to its refund policy.

InShot

InShot is a mobile video editor on the App Store, Google Play and AppGallery, with auto captions in multiple languages. Its site states no price, so there is nothing to set against CapCut's plans, and our notes hold no storage, credit or export details. It belongs on a shortlist only if you edit solely on a phone and captions are the main need.

Free desktop and browser editors: DaVinci Resolve, Clipchamp

DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is the heavyweight free choice for Mac, Windows and Linux. Its free version handles virtually all 8-bit formats at up to 60 fps in Ultra HD 3840 x 2160, with multi-user collaboration and HDR grading. Studio, a one-time purchase that was on sale when we read Blackmagic's page, adds the Neural Engine AI, text-based editing, magic mask and 10-bit video up to 120 fps beyond 4K. Pick it for grading and finishing, not quick template clips.

Clipchamp

Clipchamp's free plan exports without a watermark at up to 1080p, with unlimited exports, AI subtitles, voiceovers and silence removal. Its subtitle generator covers over 80 languages. It runs in the browser and as a Windows app. Premium features, including 4K export, premium stock and a single-brand brand kit, come with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions, and there is no separate Clipchamp price. For free 1080p with no asset rules to track, it is the simplest fit here.

Recorded talk: Descript, Riverside

Descript

Descript edits video through its transcript, with the Underlord AI assistant, in a desktop app and a browser, so it replaces CapCut on a computer only. Pricing is per person. Descript Hobbyist lists $16 per seat a month billed annually or $24 per seat a month billed monthly. Descript Creator lists $24 per seat a month billed annually or $35 per seat a month billed monthly, for up to 3 seats. Descript offers a Free plan rather than a paid-plan trial, with 720p watermarked exports. Descript accepts refund requests only within 48 hours (7 days for seats).

Riverside

Riverside is a recorder first. It captures each remote guest on a separate local track, then hands you an editor. Pricing is per account, and Pro covers one user. Riverside Pro lists $35 a month billed monthly or $24 a month billed annually. Each extra Riverside editor is an add-on at $19 a month or $168 a year. Pro, Grow and Webinar come with a 14-day trial that needs a card, and the Free plan exports at 720p with a watermark.

Browser teams and hosting: VEED, Vimeo

VEED

VEED is a browser editor with generative AI, plus iOS and Android apps on the same account. It bills per editor seat, and every workspace member counts, pending invites included. VEED Creator lists $25 per seat a month billed monthly or $12.25 per seat a month billed annually. VEED Studio lists $79 per seat a month billed monthly or $38.75 per seat a month billed annually. The Free plan caps exports at 720p and 10 minutes with a watermark, there is no trial outside Enterprise, and refunds apply only to unused plans within 14 days.

Vimeo

Vimeo is a video host and player with a recorder and text-based editing, so it suits teams that publish and share finished video. It is not a mobile template editor. Its Free plan costs nothing but has limits, such as no password protection or player customization. Vimeo Starter lists $12 per seat a month billed annually or $20 per seat a month billed monthly, with one seat included. Standard and Advanced include five and ten seats, so read each plan's seat count instead of multiplying the Starter rate.

The same headline number appears three times here. CapCut's US pricing page lists Ultra at $79 a month billed monthly per account with 8,645 monthly AI credits, the same figure as VEED Studio's monthly per-seat price and Riverside Webinar's $79 a month billed annually. That CapCut figure is a reference until you sign in (CapCut pricing). Read the unit first. One figure buys an account, one a seat, one a yearly commitment.

⚠️
Watch out
The same number, different units

CapCut Ultra, VEED Studio and Riverside Webinar share one headline figure, but it buys an account, a seat or a yearly commitment. Compare units, not digits.

Picking one: the matrix and the math

Alternative Pick it if Free option
Canva Your video sits beside social graphics and brand kits Free plan, 5 GB, limited AI uses
Filmora You want desktop plus phone and iPad apps Free version, watermarked exports
InShot You edit only on a phone No price stated
DaVinci Resolve You need free grading and finishing on desktop Free version up to Ultra HD at 60 fps
Clipchamp You want free 1080p exports with no asset rules Free plan, 1080p, no watermark
Descript You edit talk by transcript Free plan, 720p, watermark
Riverside You record remote guests Free plan, 720p, watermark
VEED Your team edits in a browser Free plan, 720p, 10 minutes, watermark
Vimeo You also need hosting and a player Free plan with limits, no password protection

Units decide the real cost more than headline prices do. Plans in this list are priced per account, per seat or per person, and some bundle a fixed number of seats, so a figure that looks cheaper can cost more once a second editor joins. Annual billing shifts the order again. The two cases below come from the listed figures.

CapCut's US pricing page also has a Yearly tab, but like the monthly figures it is labelled reference-only and CapCut runs time-limited yearly offers, so we don't quote a yearly price; check the Yearly tab after you sign in. CapCut's US pricing page lists Pro at $19.99 a month billed monthly, which comes to $239.88 a year billed monthly, against $144 a year for Canva Pro billed annually, a gap of $95.88 by our arithmetic. Treat the CapCut side as a reference that can change after sign-in (CapCut pricing). Billed monthly, the two plans sit $1.99 a month apart.

💡
Toolkit tip
Compare a full year

Put twelve monthly bills next to each annual rate before choosing. Monthly and annual prices can rank rivals in a different order.

CapCut's US pricing page lists Teams at $12.49 per seat a month billed monthly for the default 2 seats, or $24.98 a month billed monthly for two people, against $50 a month billed monthly for two Canva Business members and $70 a month billed monthly for two Descript Creator seats. Other CapCut seat counts are priced at checkout, and the final figure appears after sign-in (CapCut pricing). Two people on Riverside Pro need one account plus an editor add-on, $54 a month billed monthly. Two VEED Creator seats come to $50 a month billed monthly, or $24.50 a month billed annually.

The bottom line

No single rival replaces all of CapCut, so replace the part you use. Canva fits design-led social teams, Filmora fits editors who want desktop, phone and iPad apps, and DaVinci Resolve and Clipchamp are the strongest free picks for desktop and browser work. Descript and Riverside win when the video starts as talk, and VEED and Vimeo when a browser team or hosting is the job. Export finished videos first, and compare units, not digits.
