On monthly billing CapCut and Canva cost about the same for one person, so the real question is what you produce most. CapCut is a video-first editor with a multi-track timeline, templates, captions and an AI layer that runs on monthly credits. CapCut's US pricing page lists Pro at $19.99 a month billed monthly per account, with 1,200 monthly AI credits and 1 TB of storage [1]. That page marks its prices as reference only, and the final price appears after sign-in (see our CapCut pricing guide). Canva Pro is $18 a month billed monthly or $144 a year for one person, with 100 GB. Pick CapCut if you ship video every week; pick Canva if most of your output is static design.
Pick by what you ship every week
Monthly prices are close. Storage is not. CapCut is built for people who cut footage: short-form clips, captions, voiceovers and vertical edits. It runs as CapCut Mobile (iOS 13+ and Android 8.0+), CapCut Desktop for Windows and macOS, and CapCut Online in Chrome, Edge or Safari. One account works on up to 5 devices at once, and a Pro plan bought on any platform applies on all three. Canva starts from the other end: a design-first suite that also edits video, with Veo 3 generation and Beat Sync, where video is one format among many.
The split shows up in the AI layer too. CapCut's AI Design, powered by Seedream 5.0, generates logos, ads, banners and social posts, but its help center says it cannot reliably render readable text inside images, so you add text afterwards with the Text tool. That is a real gap for poster-style work. Canva, by contrast, is a design tool first. If your output is a timeline with cuts, captions and music, CapCut's editor is aimed squarely at it. If your output is a page, Canva's whole suite is.
Read the store ratings as a signal about daily use, not as a verdict on fit. CapCut's ratings come from the App Store US, Google Play and Trustpilot, and they rate the whole app rather than the jobs that separate these two tools. Trustpilot skews toward unhappy customers, so treat it as a map of complaints, never as a trend. A strong store rating also says little about brand control, caption export or team permissions, which is where a buying decision between a video editor and a design suite is usually won.
What you pay, and the units behind the price
Prices shown are what each vendor lists for visitors in the United States, in US dollars. Your price can differ by country, currency and local taxes such as VAT.
CapCut's US pricing page lists a $0 Free plan, Ultra at $79 a month billed monthly per account with 8,645 monthly AI credits, and Teams at $12.49 per seat a month billed monthly for the default 2 seats. Those figures are reference only, CapCut generally gives no refunds on subscriptions, and you cancel in the store where you bought, at least 24 hours before renewal (details in the CapCut pricing guide). CapCut's US pricing page also has a Yearly tab, but like the monthly figures it is labelled reference-only and CapCut runs time-limited yearly offers, so we don't quote a yearly price; check the Yearly tab after you sign in. Ultra costs about four times Pro per month for about 7.2 times the monthly credits.
For a solo buyer, a year of CapCut Pro billed monthly comes to $239.88 a year billed monthly by our arithmetic, against $216 a year billed monthly for Canva Pro and $144 a year for Canva Pro billed yearly. So CapCut Pro costs $23.88 more a year than Canva Pro on monthly billing, and $95.88 more than Canva's annual plan. Canva's annual figure has moved before: an August 2026 archive showed $180 a year, so confirm it in our Canva pricing breakdown before you budget. On price alone, Canva wins for one person at both billing terms.
Two people flip the result. CapCut Teams at the 2-seat default comes to $24.98 a month billed monthly, while two Canva Business members cost $50 a month billed monthly or $500 a year on the yearly plan, which Canva invoices every three months. The units differ, though. Canva Business is priced per person with no seat minimum. CapCut Teams is priced per seat, the seat count must exceed your current members, and the per-seat figure changes with team size, so any team above two has to be priced at CapCut's checkout. Seats can be added at any time for a prorated fee, but reduced only at renewal.
Video editor or design suite, side by side
| CapCut | Canva | |
|---|---|---|
| Built around | Multi-track video timeline, templates, captions | Design suite that also edits video |
| Paid-plan storage | 1 TB on Pro, Ultra and Teams | 100 GB on Pro, 500 GB on Business |
| Free storage | 0 GB for new spaces since 25 Mar 2026 | 5 GB |
| AI allowance | Monthly credits: 1,200 Pro, 8,645 Ultra, 1,200 per Teams seat | Monthly uses per person: 20 Free, about 200 Pro, about 400 Business |
| Brand kits | Brand Kit on the Teams plan | 1 on Free (three colors), 5 on Pro, 100 on Business |
| Billing unit | Per account; Teams per seat, 2-seat default | Per person; no seat minimum on Business |
CapCut's storage gap is the widest line in that grid, and it comes with rules. Add-on packs of 100 GB and 1,000 GB stack up to 3,000 GB in total, but they work only with an active Pro or Teams plan and CapCut publishes no price for them. When a plan ends, cloud files are not deleted and stay downloadable, yet uploads stop until you are back under the free allowance. Newly created free spaces get little or no cloud storage: 0 GB since 25 March 2026, per CapCut's help. For a video team that keeps raw footage in the cloud, that difference is the main reason to pay.
Export rules also favor planning. CapCut Desktop exports up to 4K at 60 fps, but 4K, 60 fps and the no-watermark option are locked for non-Pro users. On CapCut Web, 2K and 4K need a project created at that resolution and a browser with hardware-accelerated encoding, and free 4K exports there may carry a watermark or bitrate limits. Mobile 4K depends on the device, the source, the region and the app version, and many mid-range Android phones stop at 1080p.
AI credits against monthly AI uses
CapCut meters premium AI in credits: AI image generation, script-to-video, AI video generation with models such as Seedance, AI Portrait, Smart Cutout and premium voiceovers. The cost appears before you confirm. Subscription credits expire at the end of their grant period and never roll over, and they vanish when the plan ends. Extra credits are bought on CapCut Web and last two years, but CapCut asks you to subscribe before buying them, and some AI tools need an active membership regardless. Credits are spent in a fixed order: subscription first, then activity credits, then purchased ones.
The free tier is thinner than it looks. Some CapCut AI tools give about 10 free uses and others 2 to 3, after which they need Pro. The Design Agent is free to access, with limits. Seedance 2.5 appears only on the paid cards, and CapCut's launch post rolled it out to subscriber accounts of users over 16. Pro includes Seedance 2.0 Mini generation of up to 240 seconds at 720p or 600 seconds at 480p. Every AI output carries visible AI labels, invisible watermarks and C2PA Content Credentials.
Canva counts AI per person in monthly uses, not credits. Free allows up to 20 Standard or Premium uses a month; Pro gets about 200 Premium (or 20 Ultra) uses, ten times Free, and Business about 400 (or 40). On paid plans, Standard AI tools don't count against the allowance, and nothing is pooled across a team, while CapCut Teams pools subscription credits at team level. The units don't convert, so compare by the jobs you run. One CapCut caveat matters too: as of December 2025, its help center says the mobile app has no AI image generation, which runs on CapCut Web and Desktop.
CapCut templates add a CapCut ending clip, sometimes with a logo layer. Delete it from the timeline before export to get a clean file without paying, as long as the project uses no Pro-marked assets.
Teams, brand kits and who holds the keys
CapCut Teams is bought from inside CapCut Desktop by the Team Owner, and the team is managed from CapCut Online or Desktop, not the mobile app [2]. Every accepted member gets Pro features, co-editing, brand kits and team-only templates. Pending invites get nothing. The owner assigns Admin or Member roles, and only Admins can edit the Brand Kit. Subscription credits pool at team level, while activity and purchased credits stay personal.
Two rules catch teams late. Leaving or being removed from a team revokes shared storage, team projects, brand kits and team templates at once. CapCut also does not transfer a Teams subscription, its remaining time, seats or assets to another team, even under the same owner. A free team space lets you invite one extra person, two in total. CapCut's Creative Suite page also describes review links that reviewers can comment on and annotate, but it names no plan.
Canva's brand side is broader. Business is per person, includes 500 GB and up to 100 Brand Kits, and has no seat minimum, so agencies juggling many client brands get far more brand slots there. Even a solo designer on Canva Pro gets 5 Brand Kits, while CapCut's pricing page lists its Brand Kit only on the Teams card. Video teams sharing heavy footage, on the other hand, get more storage per plan on CapCut.
Leaving or being removed from a CapCut team revokes shared storage, team projects, brand kits and team templates at once, and a Teams subscription can't be moved to another team.
Templates, watermarks and commercial use
CapCut's watermark rules are narrower than its reputation. A project built from free assets in the standard editor exports without a watermark. Templates add a CapCut ending clip, and sometimes a logo layer, which you can delete before export [3]. Any Pro-marked asset, such as a premium effect, filter, transition, sticker or template, blocks or watermarks the export until you subscribe or remove it. On mobile, exports longer than about 15 minutes trigger the Pro prompt, and the free limit varies by region.
Template access depends on the surface. Mobile has the full gallery with search; Web has a smaller curated gallery; Desktop has no template search and only a few built-in templates. Most premium templates come from third-party creators who set the price, so a free template can turn paid later, though projects already made with it stay editable.
CapCut text panels have a Commercial Use filter. For ads or client work, use only templates and materials carrying that label.
Commercial use is the line to check first. CapCut's legal page allows commercial use only for templates and materials expressly labelled Commercial Use [4], and text panels have a filter for them. The CapCut Terms of Service as served (last updated 9 June 2020) grant a personal, non-commercial license to the services and license no music. CapCut can remove licensed music without notice, even from saved projects, and audio added on CapCut Web is not from TikTok's licensed library, so TikTok can mute it. Canva has limits too: it licenses Pro content for use in a single design, and IP indemnity comes only with Enterprise, so read its Content License Agreement before running ads.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a project between CapCut and another editor?+
Not as an editable project. CapCut doesn't import or export projects with third-party editors, so you exchange rendered video files such as MP4 or MOV instead.
Does CapCut work on an iPad in the US?+
CapCut for iPad is a Beta that isn't in the US App Store before its official launch. In the US, use CapCut Online in Safari or Chrome, or the iPhone app in compatibility mode.
Does the CapCut Pro trial turn into a paid plan?+
Yes, unless you cancel before it ends. The 7-day Pro trial is offered only in selected regions to users who never had Pro; Windows users who never had Pro may get it on PC. Check the billing period shown at checkout before you confirm.
Why don't I see Pro after paying for CapCut?+
Each login method (Google, email, TikTok, Apple ID and others) is a separate CapCut account, so a plan bought on one doesn't follow to another. Help also lists region blocks, an outdated app and sync delays as causes.
The bottom line
For one person, Canva Pro costs less on either billing term, and its design suite is the better home for graphics-heavy work. CapCut earns its listed price when video is the job: 1 TB of storage instead of 100 GB on Canva Pro, and a cheaper two-person team than two Canva Business members. Its Pro plan also unlocks 4K and 60 fps Desktop exports and a monthly credit pool for AI video. Before you commit, check the Commercial Use label on anything headed for an ad, delete template ending clips, and spend credits inside each cycle, because unused ones never roll over.
