CapCut Online, also called CapCut Web, is the browser version of CapCut: you sign in at capcut.com and edit on a multi-track timeline without installing anything. It is built for Chrome, Edge or Safari and needs a steady connection of at least 5 Mbps.[1] Your exports render in the cloud rather than on your computer. The editor is free to start, and a project built from free assets exports without a watermark. Our verdict: it is the right surface for captions, quick social edits, AI design and managing credits. It is the wrong one if you need Auto Cut, a teleprompter, direct TikTok posting or the full template gallery. Those live in the apps.

Before you open the editor: browser, connection and the right login

Start with the browser. CapCut's help center says the web editor fully supports Chrome, Edge and Safari, notes that Firefox may lack full feature parity, and advises against Opera and mobile browsers, which may not handle every feature, including the web AI tools. Your connection matters as much as your machine, because the timeline talks to CapCut's servers constantly. Plan on 5 Mbps for ordinary editing and 10 Mbps for template exports, held for the whole export rather than at its start. On a Chromebook you have three routes: the web editor itself, the same editor installed as a PWA, or the Google Play app.

The login step is where most trouble starts. CapCut Web lets you sign in with Google, TikTok, Facebook, email or a QR code scanned from the phone app. It does not offer Apple ID or phone-number login. Each login method is a separate account, even when the email address is the same, so a Pro plan bought under your TikTok login will not appear if you open the browser with Google. CapCut's help center lists the wrong account as one cause of missing Pro, next to region blocks, outdated apps and sync delays. The QR code is the safest route.

💡
Toolkit tip
Sign in by QR code

Each login method is a separate CapCut account. Scanning the QR code from the phone app opens the same account in the browser, with the same plan.

iPad owners in the US get a workaround rather than an app. CapCut for iPad is a Beta that is not in the US App Store before its official launch, and the help center recommends CapCut Online in Safari or Chrome instead. The iPhone app also runs on an iPad, but in a scaled-up compatibility mode with small touch targets. For a real timeline on a tablet, the browser is the better choice today.

Getting footage in and building the edit

The web editor pulls media from your computer, CapCut's cloud space, Google Drive or Dropbox, and from your phone through a QR code. Drive imports take one click once the accounts are connected. Images arrive 20 per batch, each under 50 MB, which is tighter than the desktop app's 200 MB per image with no hard batch limit. CapCut does not copy local files into the web editor on its own. The web media panel shows only what you uploaded yourself, so a clip sitting on your phone has to be sent across first.

The timeline itself is not a stripped-down toy. CapCut's Creative Suite page says the online editor supports unlimited video, audio, image and text tracks, plus a royalty-free music and sound-effects library. You can record from your webcam through Record and then Camera, but there is no teleprompter overlay on the web. Two quirks deserve attention. The preview is a best-effort approximation, because rendering is cloud-assisted, so check the exported file before you publish. And the Reverse tool can fail on clips too large or long for browser memory.

Housekeeping follows the account, not the tab. Projects uploaded to your cloud space sync across your devices, which needs free room in that space. Deleting a project on CapCut Web moves it to Trash and removes it from every other device signed in to the same account. Delete with care. Emojis typed into captions can also vanish after you save and reopen a web project, since they depend on browser and operating-system rendering. CapCut suggests emoji-style stickers from its own library instead, which render the same everywhere.

Captions, voices and AI tools in the browser

Captions are the web editor's strongest suit. Auto captions are free to start on CapCut Web, though some caption features may need Pro, and the caption pages list 20+ languages. You can create bilingual subtitles in one pass, batch-edit many lines at once (on the web you can even select non-sequential lines), and split a caption block with the scissors icon or the B key. CapCut recommends about 15 minutes of speech per recognition run; longer videos can time out, so split them into parts of 10 minutes or less. Projects with more than 100 caption blocks may update slowly on the web.

Subtitle files move in both directions, with limits. CapCut Web imports only .srt files, not TXT, and exports auto captions as SRT or TXT. Text you typed by hand cannot be exported as a caption file. If an SRT export fails on the web, the help center suggests exporting TXT first and keeping the export path in plain ASCII characters.

The AI side is broader on the web than on the phone. As of December 2025, AI Design, CapCut's text-to-image tool, runs on CapCut Online and Desktop, while the mobile app has no user-accessible AI image generation. The browser text-to-speech tool needs no download or card, and changing the AI video maker's language is possible only in the online version. Free accounts can hit daily limits on AI features, which can leave a request stuck at its thinking stage. The notable gap is Auto Cut: the beat, pause and prompt-based trimming tool works on Mobile and Desktop, not on CapCut Web.[2] Auto Reframe, once a free preview, now needs Pro on every surface.

Toolkit tip
Set 4K at project creation

On CapCut Web, 2K and 4K exports appear only if the project was created at that resolution with a custom aspect ratio and your browser supports hardware-accelerated encoding; presets such as YouTube 16:9 may lock it to 1080p, and free accounts may get a watermark or bitrate limits on 4K.

What the web can and can't do next to the apps

The browser shares one account with Mobile and Desktop. The features are not identical. Projects saved to your cloud space open on the other surfaces as long as the space has room (new free spaces get little or none), and a Pro plan bought anywhere applies everywhere. Yet several tools exist on only one or two of them. Know the gaps first. This grid covers the differences you are most likely to hit.

Task CapCut Web CapCut Desktop CapCut Mobile
Auto Cut No Yes Yes
AI Design (image generation) Yes Yes No (Dec 2025)
Import SRT subtitle files Yes (.srt only) Yes No
Full credit breakdown and expiry Yes Balance only One merged total
Teleprompter No No Yes
Link TikTok and post directly No No Yes
Buy or view paid creator templates No No Yes

Templates are the clearest split. The web gallery shows editorial-approved and evergreen templates without a personalized feed, so trending TikTok templates rarely appear, community templates are missing, and template links cannot be copied. A Pro template carries a purple Pro badge on its thumbnail, and the export panel labels it as a paid template. Creator templates you already bought on mobile remain usable on the web through synced projects. Publishing templates is a mobile-app job, so plan to finish that step on your phone.

Exporting a clean file from the browser

Export is where web projects most often disappoint, and the cause is usually settled at the start. On CapCut Online, 2K and 4K options appear only if the project was created at that resolution, using a custom aspect ratio, and if your browser and device support hardware-accelerated encoding.[3] CapCut also lists a modern browser, 8 GB of RAM and Windows 10/11 64-bit or macOS 11 or later. Presets such as YouTube 16:9 may lock the project to 1080p. Advanced Settings set quality, frame rate and format, and finished files come out as MP4 or MOV.

Watermarks follow clear rules. A project built from free assets exports clean. A template adds a CapCut ending clip, and sometimes a logo layer, that you can delete from the end of the timeline before exporting. Any Pro-marked asset, from a premium effect to a filter, transition or sticker, blocks the export or watermarks it until you subscribe or remove it, cover image included. CapCut lists 4K and 60 fps export among Pro features, and its help center says free accounts may face watermarks or bitrate limits on 4K web exports. Do not count on free 4K.

Because rendering happens in the cloud, a long or 4K project can exceed what the browser handles. If an export stalls, lower the resolution or frame rate, or export in segments. For TikTok, the web editor gives you an MP4 to upload yourself. Music added on CapCut Web does not come from TikTok's licensed library, so TikTok treats it as user-generated audio and can mute it. Pick your sound carefully.

⚠️
Watch out
Web audio can be muted on TikTok

Music added on CapCut Web is not from TikTok's licensed library, so TikTok treats it as user-generated audio and can mute it after you upload the MP4.

Paying, storage and teams from the browser

The web is where CapCut takes card payments. You can pay for Pro by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, depending on region, and the plan then works on Mobile and Desktop too. CapCut's US pricing page lists Free at $0, Pro at $19.99 a month billed monthly and Ultra at $79 a month billed monthly, each per account.[4] Those figures are for reference only; the final price, taxes and any offer appear after you sign in and can differ by region, device and account, as our CapCut pricing guide explains. CapCut's US pricing page also has a Yearly tab, but like the monthly figures it is labelled reference-only and CapCut runs time-limited yearly offers, so we don't quote a yearly price; check the Yearly tab after you sign in.

Credits are managed best here. Only CapCut Web shows each credit batch with its grant and expiry date, under your profile icon and then Credits, and the web store is where you buy extra credits. Subscription credits expire at the end of their grant period and never roll over. CapCut asks you to subscribe before buying credits, and some AI tools need an active membership anyway.

Storage and teams need more care. New spaces get little or no free cloud storage: CapCut's help says newly created free spaces get 0 GB since 25 March 2026, which the web may display as 1KB. Older files stay viewable and downloadable, but new uploads need cloud space, which comes with a paid plan: Pro or Ultra (1 TB each) or Teams. Extra storage packs can be added only on top of an active Pro or Teams plan, on the web or Desktop. A new free space can invite only one collaborator. Team settings and invites are managed from CapCut Online or Desktop, not the mobile app; Desktop is covered in our CapCut Desktop guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does CapCut Online work in Firefox?+

CapCut's help center fully supports Chrome, Edge and Safari and says Firefox may lack full feature parity, including some web AI tools. Switch browsers if a feature is missing or stalls.

Can I use CapCut Online on an iPad?+

Yes. CapCut for iPad is a Beta that is not in the US App Store before its official launch, so CapCut's help center recommends CapCut Online in Safari or Chrome on iPad.

Is there an offline mode for CapCut Web?+

CapCut's help center doesn't describe an offline mode for the web editor: web exports rely on cloud processing and a stable internet connection (CapCut recommends at least 5 Mbps). If you need local rendering, CapCut Desktop is the option to look at.

Where do I manage a CapCut Teams plan?+

Team settings and invites are managed from CapCut Online or CapCut Desktop, not from the mobile app.

The bottom line

CapCut Online is a genuine editor, not a preview of one. Use it for caption-heavy edits, SRT work, AI design, quick exports from any computer with Chrome, Edge or Safari, and for checking and buying credits. Set the resolution when you create the project, keep Pro-marked assets out unless you subscribe, and sign in with the same method everywhere. Switch to the phone app for Auto Cut, the teleprompter, TikTok posting and paid templates.
