Descript works for a marketing team of up to five editors, and the plan most teams need is Business at $50 per person a month billed annually or $65 billed monthly[1]. A full team of five costs $250 a month on annual billing, or $3,000 a year, by our arithmetic. That price buys what marketers need and the lower plans lack: Brand Studio, your own logo on share pages, translation proofread and support with an SLA. Creator is the cheaper route for three editors who can live without brand controls. Six editors or more means Enterprise. Reviewers who only watch and comment are free.
Sizing the team: Creator, Business or Enterprise
| Plan | Price per Editor a month | Editor seats | Media hours per Editor a month | AI credits per Editor a month | Brand Studio |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hobbyist | $16 billed annually / $24 billed monthly | 1 | 10 | 400 | No |
| Creator | $24 billed annually / $35 billed monthly | Up to 3 | 30 | 800 | No |
| Business | $50 billed annually / $65 billed monthly | Up to 5 | 40 | 1,500 | Yes |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | By contract | Pooled | Pooled | Yes, with permissions |
Seats are billed per person, and usage pools on the team's Drive. Five Business Editors share 200 media hours and 7,500 AI credits a month, and nothing rolls over at renewal. Media minutes count every upload and recording whether or not you transcribe it, so a team importing long webinar files burns hours faster than its finished output suggests. AI credits pay for Underlord, Studio Sound, dubbing and avatars. Underlord's cost per prompt is not fixed, and even chatting with it spends credits. Watch the Usage tab for a month before you plan a quarter.
For a three-person team the choice is real. Three Creator seats cost $72 a month billed annually, and three Business seats cost $150. On annual billing the gap for three people is $78 a month; on monthly billing it is $90. The upgrade buys Brand Studio, proofread translation, a Control Room for up to 10 producers and viewers, SLA support and more usage: 10 more media hours and 700 more AI credits per Editor each month. If your team would otherwise spend more than that gap on top-ups, the upgrade covers itself on usage alone. Below it, upgrade only for the brand features.
Creator caps at three Editors, so a fourth editor forces the move to Business. For four people that comes to $200 a month on annual billing or $260 billed monthly. Business caps at five, and a sixth person who accepts an Editor invite simply joins as a Viewer. Beyond five, Enterprise adds SSO and SCIM, Drive admins, custom workspaces, Brand Studio permissions and invoice billing at a custom price through sales. Plan refunds exist only within 48 hours of the invoice and Editor seat refunds within 7 days, as our Descript pricing guide explains.
Removing an Editor does not stop billing for that seat until the Drive owner reduces the seat count.
Updating or removing a share page permanently deletes the comments on it, so copy approval feedback before you republish.
A campaign day: one recording, a week of posts
Most marketing output starts with one long conversation: a webinar, a customer interview, a founder talk. Rooms is Descript's browser studio for that, with up to 10 participants, local 4K recording per participant and a 4-hour cap per session. A one-hour Room with five people uses 60 media minutes, not 300. Zoom cloud recordings import directly. Then the team edits by deleting words in the transcript, while Remove Filler Words (English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese and Italian), Remove Retakes and Studio Sound clean the audio in passes that would take an afternoon on a timeline.
Create Clips is the step that turns one recording into a week of social posts. You ask for 1 to 20 clips, each between 10 seconds and 5 minutes, optionally in portrait 9:16 or square 1:1, with a topic prompt to steer the selection. Each clip lands as its own editable composition in a folder, so a designer can restyle one without touching the others. Very short sources under a minute may produce nothing. Captions were redesigned in September 2026 with 18 new presets, and they can be split per speaker for interview formats.
The writing comes from the same transcript. Publish tools draft titles, summaries, show notes with chapters, YouTube descriptions, social posts and blog posts from the whole composition or a selected passage. Markers become YouTube chapters on direct export. The thumbnail generator returns four options per run and spends AI credits, but thumbnails never sync to YouTube on their own; you set them in YouTube Studio. Treat every draft as a draft. Underlord can still get things wrong, as Descript's own help center warns.
The case studies are Descript's own and unaudited. SaaStr reports publishing three to four videos a day, 100% more content and a 214% year-over-year rise in organic reach. Revelo's CMO produces a branded podcast in about two hours a week using recording, text editing and Create Clips in one tool. These are vendor-reported numbers. Use them as a sense of what is possible, not as a forecast.
Share pages need no Descript account and take timestamped comments, while project links require the reviewer to sign in.
Keeping every video on brand
Brand Studio is the main reason a marketing team pays for Business. Each Drive holds one brand kit with shared fonts, colors, media and layout packs, and you can set a default layout pack so new projects start on brand[2]. Only Drive owners and admins can add or manage the assets; editors use them and viewers see them. Importing Brand Studio media costs no media minutes. Brand Studio can also generate a branded layout pack from uploaded brand files and a prompt, at 120 AI credits for the basic flow plus 50 per re-prompt.
Custom branding on share pages swaps Descript's logo and name for your logo and Drive name. It applies to every share page and embed from the Drive, including pages already published. The Glossary tab holds a transcription glossary of up to 30 terms (English only) and a Do Not Translate list for product names. That list is not case sensitive and does not match partial words. Locking fonts, colors and the glossary to admins is Enterprise only. Even then, Underlord may apply content that ignores locked settings. Review before publishing.
Review and approval without paying for reviewers
Approvers never need a paid seat. Viewers are free Drive members who can watch and comment, and project collaborators invited to a single project are free too, though they cannot use AI tools, record or upload. Ticking Also invite to drive on such an invitation adds a paid Editor seat. Project links require the recipient to sign in to a Descript account, with access set to comment, view or project members only. Comments support @mentions, which send the tagged person an email with the comment.
For stakeholders outside the tool, a share page is the easier route. Publishing to a web link creates a page anyone can watch without an account, with timestamped comments, an optional transcript and an embed code[3]. Access can be public and indexable, anyone with the link, or project members only. One trap matters for approval rounds. Updating or removing a share page permanently deletes its comments, so copy the feedback first. Business adds Cursor Presence, which shows teammates' cursors live in the editor.
On Business, translate captions first, proofread them, then dub and lip sync once; re-translating overwrites manual fixes and spends AI credits again.
Translation and getting videos out
Caption translation covers 61 languages and dubbing more than 30. Dubbing with proofread is a Business feature; the help center says lower paid plans can also dub, so check the plan before buying for translation[4]. Lip sync starts at Creator. Translating creates a new composition, and later edits to the original do not sync. Re-translating overwrites manual fixes and spends credits again. Order matters. On Business, translate captions first, proofread, then dub and lip sync once.
Direct publishing covers YouTube, HubSpot, Wistia and Google Drive, and the August 2026 changelog added LinkedIn. YouTube export works only from the web app. It does not support Shorts or Brand and shared-access channels, and only the channel owner can publish. That rules out direct export to a company channel your team manages through Brand or shared access. Check yours first. HubSpot exports land on the file's details page there. Descript does not list Vimeo as a current destination. A Wistia export also creates an unlisted Descript share page.
Descript is an editor, not a host. A share page shows only a total view count, with no heatmaps or per-viewer data. Teams that need engagement data can publish to a host such as Wistia, priced per account at $79 a month billed annually on its Business plan with 3 users. Wistia also records in the browser and edits by transcript, so Descript's edge is editing depth. Our Vimeo vs Wistia comparison covers that choice. Descript itself does not live stream, has no mobile editing and caps Rooms at 10 people.
Frequently asked questions
Can we try Descript as a team before paying?+
Descript offers a Free plan rather than a paid-plan trial: 1 media hour a month, 100 one-time AI credits and 720p exports with a Descript watermark, for one person.
Do we need a separate Drive for each brand?+
Each Drive holds one brand kit in Brand Studio, and each Drive has its own plan, card and invoices, so a second brand kit means a second subscription.
Can our editors finish videos in Premiere Pro?+
Timeline export starts at Creator; trims, ignored script, markers and Studio Sound carry over, but captions do not export to Premiere Pro, and comments become markers only if you turn that option on.
Is our footage used to train AI models?+
On self-serve plans, check the Share data with Descript toggle under Settings > Profile; Enterprise adds a contractual opt-out of AI training.
The bottom line
Descript fits a marketing team of three to five people who turn long recordings into many short, branded pieces. Business at $50 per Editor a month billed annually is the plan that earns its price for that team, because Brand Studio, branded share pages and proofread translation sit there and reviewers cost nothing. Creator is enough for three editors without brand controls. Teams of six or more need Enterprise, and teams that need view analytics still need a separate host.
