The Toolkit take
3 a day
Searches or reports on the free Ubersuggest account, with no time limit.
1 project
25 keywords, weekly, desktop only
40 a day
Chrome extension searches, free
7-day trial
monthly plans only, card required

The short answer: free, but tight

Partly. Ubersuggest has a free account with no time limit, but it allows 3 searches or reports a day and 1 project [1]. Full access needs a paid plan, or the 7-day trial on a monthly plan, which asks for a card. The surprise is AI. The MCP server and the Claude and ChatGPT apps work on a free account, so a free user can query Ubersuggest from an assistant. The rest of this guide walks through what the free account keeps, how far the Chrome extension and the AI route stretch it, and what the trial really costs if you forget it.

What the free account gives you

How you get one, and why it never expires

Register with an email and a free account is created automatically, with no activation step and no card. Your current plan shows in Account & Billing. The help center says the free account has no time limit and can be used indefinitely within its limits, so it is not a trial that expires. It is also where a canceled paid plan lands, which matters later. The free account is simply Ubersuggest with low ceilings: keyword research, traffic, site audit, backlinks and rank tracking all stay, at small volumes. The help center lists every limit in one article, updated July 2025. Nothing is hidden. Everything is small.

Three reports a day and one project

The daily cap is 3 searches or reports, and each keyword lookup or domain report counts as one. Individual allows 150 a day. Over a thirty-day month the free account allows about 90 reports, while Individual allows about 4,500, so the first paid tier is fifty times larger on the one limit most free users hit first (our arithmetic). Three is enough to check one idea, not to research a topic. You also get one project, which is one tracked website holding your rank tracking, audit and competitors. A second site needs a paid plan, or a $5 add-on on top of one.

Rankings, locations and competitors

Free rank tracking covers 25 keywords per project, with weekly, desktop-only updates [1]. Paid plans add mobile tracking but stay weekly too, so the free plan loses mobile, not speed. For one small site, 25 desktop rankings is a usable starter set. Tracking covers one location, against 20 on Individual and unlimited on Business and Enterprise. A local business serving one city loses little. A national one loses more. On competitors, the help center gives two answers: the free account article allows up to 2 per project, while a newer article on data limits, from October 2025, says the free version analyzes 1. Expect one.

💡
Toolkit tip
Connect an AI assistant

Connect the free account to Claude or ChatGPT to query data without opening reports. Start with the content demand finder, which makes no data calls.

Audits, backlinks, lists and exports

Free users can analyze up to 150 pages per audit cycle, with a weekly report, but cannot recrawl on demand. A 150-page site gets a full weekly checkup. A larger one gets a sample: on a 1,000-page site, that is 15% each week, while Individual's 1,000 page scans cover the whole site in one crawl (our arithmetic). Backlink reports show up to 100 links per site, against 2,000, 5,000 or 10,000 on paid plans, all from the Moz API. A hundred links shows the shape of a profile, not its depth. You get 3 keyword lists of up to 30 keywords, but must copy research results into them by hand.

The export and history limits are the other half of the picture. PDF export is for paid subscribers only; free users can export Site Audit results to CSV and view most other reports online, while Similar Websites shows upgrade prompts instead. Traffic Estimation on the free plan does not include historical data, so you see the current month only. For a quick size-up of a competitor, that is often enough. The free AI Writer is limited to 2,000 words, 5 searches a day and 1 saved document, roughly one short blog post. Free writing is a demo.

The free AI route: Claude, ChatGPT and MCP

What works without paying

The MCP server connects Ubersuggest to Claude, Cursor, Windsurf and Codex, with 42 tools, and signs in through OAuth, so no API key is needed. The Claude page states that "Every tool works on a free Ubersuggest account" [2], and adds that a free account, not no account, is required. The Claude plugin adds nine skills, including an SEO action plan, keyword research, site audit and a content brief. Only article generation needs a paid plan, at 100 credits. One skill, the content demand finder, makes no data calls and runs without signing in. An official ChatGPT app exposes the same 42 tools, and a free Ubersuggest account is enough to sign in. That is unusual at this price.

What the assistants spend

The catch is the quota. Calls through Claude or ChatGPT draw on the same daily reports and monthly credits as the web app, so on a free account that still means 3 reports a day. The assistant route is more convenient, not more generous. What it adds is analysis: the assistant turns one report into a plan in plain language. In practice, a Claude session that asks for a keyword list, a competitor gap and a site audit summary will use all three free reports in one sitting. On a free account, that makes the assistant a once-a-day consultation rather than a workspace. Start with the content demand finder, which spends nothing.

AI Search Visibility and Content Studio

The newest help article on AI Search Visibility, updated September 2026, says a free user gets the basic version, enough to test the feature. Free and Individual are capped at 10 prompts per brand, and paid plans add more brands, prompts and faster refreshes. The undated home page FAQ still describes AI tracking as a paid feature. Expect a taste, not a tracker. Content Studio, which turns a keyword into a full draft with titles, a featured image and Markdown or PDF export, is available on paid plans and during the trial only. At 100 credits an article, Individual's 250 monthly credits cover two. The free plan covers none.

The Chrome extension stretches it furthest

The Chrome extension gives free and logged-out users 40 searches a day, more than 13 times the app's free limit (our arithmetic). It shows keyword volume, CPC and domain data inside Google results, plus domain overview, keywords by traffic, backlinks and site audit basics, though detailed data needs the app. The 40 searches reset at midnight UTC. Added to the app's 3 daily reports, that brings a free user to 43 lookups a day, or roughly 1,290 in a thirty-day month, more than many hobby sites will ever need. This is the best free part of Ubersuggest. Our Ubersuggest Chrome extension guide covers it in detail.

The smart split follows from that. Spend the three daily reports on what the extension cannot show: domain traffic history, the keyword gap and your project audit. Use the extension for single-keyword volume and CPC, and batch the rest of your questions for the next day. Some research also works without an account, and since July 2025 even logged-out users can create a project. Logging in keeps the work, though. Do that.

The 7-day trial and its card

How the trial works

The trial gives full access to every feature in the plan you choose for seven days, and it is a one-time offer for new users. You pick the tier, Individual, Business or Enterprise/Agency, so test the one you would buy. On Enterprise that means 900 searches a day and 15 projects, plus AI Search Visibility. Rankings still update weekly, so one week shows one update. The billing toggle must be set to Monthly for the trial to appear; yearly and Lifetime plans have no trial, and the Terms say their fees are non-refundable. That is the main reason to start monthly. You can upgrade after.

The card, and the charge on day seven

You must enter valid payment information to activate the trial [3]. Cards, debit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay and PayPal are listed, and a card that blocks international payments may fail at checkout. You are not charged during the seven days. If you start on the first of the month, the first charge falls on the seventh, and the same card is then billed on that date every month. So cancel in Account & Billing on day five or six; the help center says access typically continues to the end of the trial.

⚠️
Watch out
The trial bills on its own

The trial converts to a paid month unless canceled inside seven days, and once a paid cycle starts the charge is non-refundable.

If you forget

If the trial is not stopped, the subscription begins automatically and the first billing cycle is charged: the full monthly price of $29, $49 or $99. Several Trustpilot reviewers describe exactly this charge. "Once a paid cycle starts, the charge is non-refundable" [4]. The Terms agree for every region except the EU and UK, which keep a 14-day statutory cancellation right, and Brazil, which gets 7 days. Everywhere else, the first month is paid for good. Set a reminder.

Free next to Individual

Limit Free Individual ($29/mo)
Searches a day 3 150
Projects 1 1
Tracked keywords 25, desktop 125, desktop and mobile
Locations 1 20
Site audit pages 150 1,000
Backlinks shown 100 2,000
Users 1 1

Moving from Free to Individual costs $29 a month and multiplies daily searches by 50, tracked keywords by 5 and audit pages by almost 7 (our arithmetic). It leaves the single project and single user unchanged, so the upgrade buys depth on one site rather than reach across several. Free is enough for a hobby blog or a single local business site that needs a weekly look at 25 rankings, a 150-page audit and a few keyword checks, with the extension and an AI assistant on top. Many small sites need no more.

Free stops working the day you need daily research, more than one site, mobile rankings, PDF exports or history over time. AI search tracking is only a basic test version. A content team will hit the 3-search wall by breakfast. Then pay, and read our Ubersuggest pricing guide before you choose the tier.

Free next to Semrush, Ahrefs, Serpstat and Mangools

Semrush's free account allows 10 tracked keywords and a 100-page site audit, against 25 keywords and 150 pages on Ubersuggest Free. On those two numbers, Ubersuggest's free tier is larger, while Semrush gives more daily queries per tool. Different shapes. Ahrefs Free gives limited access to Site Explorer and Site Audit for sites you own; asked about discounts or free trials, its pricing FAQ says Ahrefs never runs discounts and points site owners to Ahrefs Free instead. Ubersuggest Free works on any domain, at 3 reports a day. Ahrefs Free is for your site. Ubersuggest Free is for any site.

Serpstat offers a free 7-day trial of its core features, the same length as Ubersuggest's, which needs a card. For a permanent free tier, Ubersuggest's 3 searches a day and 25 tracked keywords are a workable starter, so compare both before choosing. On paid entry plans, Mangools Basic costs $49 a month or $358.80 a year, against $29 for Ubersuggest Individual. That makes Ubersuggest the cheaper next step by $20 a month (our arithmetic). Our Ubersuggest review covers what that money buys.

Dropping back to free after paying

If a paid subscription is canceled, the account automatically reverts to a free account, and a failed payment downgrades it the same way. Lifetime plans do not cancel; deleting the account removes the plan for good. The downgrade is where data disappears. Rankings and historical data are removed, except the oldest project with 25 keywords, and resubscribing does not recover data lost to cancellation. Another help article says data may be recoverable if you act fast. Do not count on it. A Business customer with seven projects of 150 keywords each would keep 25 of 1,050 tracked keywords, about 2.4%, and lose the rest of the ranking history (our arithmetic). Keep the card current.

Paying less than full price

Students with an active university email get 20% off monthly plans for 12 months, which drops Individual to $23.20 a month; after a year it renews at full price unless canceled 30 days before. Registered non-profits and charities get 20% off monthly plans for as long as they qualify, which drops Business to $39.20 a month, and they apply during the trial with proof of registration. Annual and Lifetime plans are excluded from both. Worth an email.

The lowest first-year price is Individual billed yearly at $192, about $16 a month and 44.8% under twelve monthly payments. Run the monthly trial first, since yearly has none, then switch; upgrades are prorated. Lifetime costs $290 for Individual, the price of ten months, with no trial, no refund and fewer AI features. Over three years, Individual costs $1,044 on monthly billing, $576 on yearly billing and $290 once on Lifetime, so Lifetime saves $286 against yearly by year three. That holds only if the product, the Lifetime terms and your need for one site all last that long. Lifetime is not free. It only looks like it after month ten.

A one-week test, and where the pages disagree

Expect some noise in the documentation before you start. Two help articles disagree on free competitors, 2 against 1. The Chrome extension has two limit tables, one from July 2024 and one from December 2024. And the home page promises daily rank tracking that no plan now has. Trust the newest page, and if a limit matters to you, ask support by email whether it is 1 or 2, or whether free accounts will keep MCP access. Short questions get short answers. With that settled, a free account is worth one structured week before you hand over a card:

Toolkit tip
Split work with the extension

Use the Chrome extension's 40 daily searches for single-keyword volume and CPC, and save the app's 3 reports for traffic, the keyword gap and your audit.

The verdict

Yes, Ubersuggest is free in a narrow sense: 3 reports a day, 1 project and 25 weekly desktop rankings, with no time limit. Its real free bonus is AI access through MCP, Claude and ChatGPT, plus 40 daily lookups in the Chrome extension, which together cover a hobby site or a single local business. For anything more, the trial needs a card, and the first charge cannot be refunded outside the EU, the UK and Brazil. Start the trial only when you are ready to judge it. Cancel on day six.
