Two AI tools, two different jobs

Mangools sells two AI search tools, and they answer different questions. AI Search Watcher tracks how AI answers mention your brand over time. AI Search Grader is a free, one-off audit. The Watcher shows when and where your brand is mentioned in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and other AI search engines, so you can track visibility, spot opportunities and compare your brand with competitors side by side [1]. Think of it as a rank tracker for AI answers. This playbook covers setup, metrics, limits and costs, from Mangools' own pages as of October 12, 2026.

Coverage is wide. In the vendor's words, "We currently track the eight most popular AI search engines": ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Mistral and Llama. The guide lists ChatGPT Search specifically, and you can pick up to eight engines per monitor. The short version: the free tier gives you one monitor and five prompts, Pro gives you 500 prompts for US$49 a month, and everything updates weekly. Start with the grader.

💡
Toolkit tip
Add every brand variation

Enter domain names, nicknames and shorthands when you create the monitor. AI models often use them, and variations reduce false negatives.

Tiers, prices and the bundle question

Free, Pro and Custom

The guide lists three tiers. Free has 5 prompts and 1 monitor. Pro has 500 prompts and unlimited monitors. Custom has custom prompts [2]. All tiers run 2 checks per prompt, update weekly and send weekly or monthly email reports. The difference is volume, not frequency. A brand watching five prompts on four engines collects 40 answers a week on the free tier, while Pro's 500 prompts on all eight engines can collect 8,000 answers a week. Enterprises with needs beyond that can ask Mangools about Custom.

What Pro costs

AI Search Watcher Pro costs US$49 a month or US$418.80 a year, with 500 prompts and unlimited monitors [3]. That is about US$0.07 a prompt a month billed annually. Over a year, 500 prompts updated weekly with two runs each come to 52,000 prompt checks per engine, which works out at less than a cent per check on the annual price. Billed monthly, Pro costs US$588 a year, so annual billing saves 29% by our arithmetic. Commit after a month of monthly use. Cheap per prompt, yes. The weekly update is the trade-off.

Do the SEO plans include Pro?

Here Mangools' pages disagree. The plan data gives Basic, Premium and Agency 1 AI monitor and 5 prompts each [4]. The September 2026 guide says each SEO bundle includes Pro at an extra 50% discount. If the guide is right, a Basic subscriber billed annually would get 500 prompts inside a US$358.80 plan. If the plan data is right, the same subscriber needs another US$418.80 a year for Pro. Settle that difference in writing before you rely on bundled Pro. Our Mangools pricing guide covers the SEO plans themselves.

⚠️
Watch out
Location and language are permanent

A monitor's location and language cannot be changed after setup. On the free tier, fixing a wrong choice means rebuilding the only monitor and losing its history.

How tracking works: weekly, twice per prompt

All tiers update monitors weekly. AI answers change often, so weekly averages smooth the noise. For brand tracking, that is enough. For campaigns that need daily reads, it is slow. Each prompt also runs twice per update on every tier. The product page explains that AI search results are not always consistent, so multiple runs give steadier averages. Two runs is a minimum, but still better than one.

The double run also shapes how you read the numbers. With two runs per prompt, each prompt's visibility per engine can only be 0%, 50% or 100%. That is coarse for a single prompt and meaningful only across many. A prompt that showed the brand once and then twice has moved from 50% to 100% visibility, a jump that can reverse the next week without any change on your side.

Setting up a monitor, step by step

Location and language come first

A monitor needs a website, a brand name, optional brand name variations, a location and language, and the AI engines to watch, up to eight. Location and language cannot be changed later. Choose carefully. AI answers differ by market, so a US company that later expands to the UK needs a second monitor for UK English rather than editing the first. That is free on Pro's unlimited monitors but impossible on the single free monitor. Fixing a wrong location means building a new monitor from scratch, which on the free tier also means losing the only monitor slot and the history collected so far.

Brand variations

The guide recommends adding brand variations such as domain names, nicknames and shorthands, because AI models often use them. Its example lists VW, Volkswagen Group and volkswagen.com. Variations reduce false negatives, the cases where the brand appears but the tool misses it. Add every common form of your name, including the bare domain, before the first update runs.

Prompts and tags

AI Search Watcher suggests prompts for your brand, which you can keep, remove or regenerate. The guide warns that the suggestions are AI-generated and may not match your brand. Review them all, because bad prompts give useless scores. Prompts can then be grouped with tags, which helps filter by prompt type later. Tag by intent: comparison, problem, brand, pricing. Do it at setup. With 500 prompts on Pro, tags are the only practical way to see whether the brand is gaining on comparison questions while losing ground on problem questions, because the overall score blends both.

Where good prompts come from

The guide suggests finding question-style prompts in KWFinder's Autocomplete and Questions tabs, saving them to a list and pasting them into AI Search Watcher. Long-tail questions mirror how people ask AI, which makes them a natural source. Another route is to take keywords you already track in SERPWatcher and ask an AI model to turn them into conversational prompts, then paste the output in. It reuses existing research, but review the output, because AI rewrites can drift. A SERPWatcher list of 200 tracked keywords could become far more prompts than the free tier's five, so pick the keywords with the highest commercial value before converting them.

Choosing five prompts on the free tier

Five is tight. Pick one brand query, two comparison queries against named rivals and two problem queries your product solves. That covers awareness, consideration and intent. For a project management tool, that could mean one prompt with the brand name, two asking how it compares with two named rivals, and two asking for the best tool for remote teams or for small agencies. Choose the ones that sell.

💡
Toolkit tip
Spend five prompts wisely

On the free tier, pick one brand query, two comparison queries against named rivals and two problem queries your product solves.

Reading the dashboard

The dashboard shows an overall score for all prompts, the number of prompts monitored and the winning brand, with a performance summary, brand perception and performance cards. You can filter by model, prompt type, location and time frame. The core metric is visibility, defined as "The percentage of times your brand appears in the results for this prompt across multiple runs in selected LLMs." The guide also reports an average position and an overall AI Search Score. Treat position as a trend, because single values jump.

Cited domains, the most actionable part

A section lists the top 10 cited domains in responses for your prompts. That shows which sites AI engines trust in your niche, and those are your outreach targets. If the same review site appears in the top 10 for most of your prompts, a correction or a new listing there can move several AI answers at once, more than any single page on your own site. When AI answers describe your brand wrongly, the source is usually a page they cite, and this list shows which ones.

Perception, competitors and recommendations

The product page says AI Search Watcher shows how LLMs describe and interpret your brand, uncovering gaps and misperceptions. Read those descriptions for errors, since wrong facts in AI answers often come from old pages. The competitor view shows where rivals rank and where they are cited. Add your two or three main rivals, not ten, and study their citations for what to imitate. The guide also includes a recommendations section. Use it as a starting list, not a plan, and check each recommendation against your cited-domains data, which is more specific.

Sharing, reports, API and MCP

AI Search Watcher supports sharing and a Looker Studio connection, so agencies can put AI visibility next to rankings in one dashboard for clients. Test the shared view first. Settings include weekly or monthly email reports. A monthly report suits most brands, and weekly suits launches. The guide also lists API and MCP access, and the API page describes endpoints for AI models, monitors, prompts and monitor settings. API pricing is not published. Ask before automating.

Start with the free AI Search Grader

AI Search Grader is a free GEO tool that evaluates a brand's visibility in ChatGPT, DeepSeek V3, Claude, Gemini, Mistral and Llama 3.3. You enter a brand and a short description, and it generates prompts. No plan is needed. It reports visibility, meaning the share of prompts where the brand appears in the top 20 results, an average ranking and an AI Search Score from 0 to 100 that weights visibility higher and adjusts for each model's market share. One number to start. Then dig. Because it generates its own prompts, it shows how AI engines answer category questions you may not have thought to ask.

That makes the order clear. The grader is a one-off snapshot with prompts it generates; the Watcher tracks your chosen prompts weekly over time. Use the grader to pick prompts and the Watcher to track them. One small inconsistency: the grader page says it tests each prompt across seven AI models but names six. It does not change how to use the tool. Our guide to what Mangools gives you free covers the grader alongside the other free tools.

A 30-day playbook, and how to read results

In week one, run the grader for your brand and two rivals. In week two, set up a monitor with five prompts on the free tier. In weeks three and four, read the cited domains and fix the pages AI engines quote, starting with your own pages and then asking third-party sites to correct theirs. It takes weeks. Because monitors update weekly, a correction on a cited page will usually take one or two update cycles to show, so allow a month before judging whether a fix worked.

After that, discipline matters more than features. A single week's movement can be noise, so look at four-week trends before acting. Track visibility across all prompts monthly and note when it rises after content changes; the tool keeps the history. Pair it with SERPWatcher rankings for the same topics, for two views of one strategy. AI engines personalize and change answers, and two runs a week give an estimate, not a census. Treat scores as directional. Never report a single week to a client as fact.

How it compares with Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking

Tool AI prompts tracked Update Price
Mangools free tier 5 Weekly Free
Mangools Pro 500 Weekly US$49 a month
Ahrefs Lite / Standard 5 / 10 Not stated From US$129 / US$249 a month
SE Ranking Core 100 Daily US$129 a month
Semrush Pro+ / Advanced 100 / 200 Daily US$299 / US$549 a month

Semrush tracks daily and ties AI tracking to its SEO data; Mangools is broader and cheaper. Ahrefs needs a paid plan to get any tracked prompts, so a team that only wants AI tracking pays far more per prompt there than on Mangools' free tier or Pro. SE Ranking Core tracks 100 prompts daily, while Mangools Pro tracks five times more prompts for US$80 less, but weekly. Daily or volume: pick one. Annual Basic plus annual Pro costs US$777.60 a year for the five SEO tools and 500 AI prompts, less than Semrush's SEO plan alone at US$1,407.96 billed annually. A budget AI stack.

Who should use it, and who should look elsewhere

AI Search Watcher suits brands that want a cheap first view of AI visibility, and SEO teams already on Mangools. Agencies can share reports and connect Looker Studio. Small budgets benefit most, because the free tier proves the value before you spend. A small business can run the grader, track five prompts on the free tier for a quarter and only then decide whether US$418.80 a year for Pro is justified. Buy Pro when five prompts cannot cover your product lines, markets or competitors. A company with three products in two languages already needs more than five.

The weekly rhythm is the real dividing line. Teams that need daily AI tracking tied to SEO data should compare SE Ranking or Semrush instead, since both check prompts daily inside their SEO plans. For them, weekly may not be enough. Enterprises with custom needs can ask Mangools about the Custom tier before deciding. Everyone else can test the fit for free: the grader and a five-prompt monitor cost nothing and show within a month whether AI visibility data changes what you do. Check first.

⚠️
Watch out
Pages disagree on bundled Pro

The plan data gives the SEO plans 1 monitor and 5 prompts, while the September 2026 guide says they include Pro at an extra 50% discount. Get it in writing.
