What AI Search Visibility actually measures
AI Search Visibility, or AISV, shows how often your brand appears in answers from AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini, and how that compares with your competitors [1]. It runs many prompts for your topic, checks each answer for your brand, and rolls the results up into a visibility share. It launched in September 2025. More buying research now happens inside AI answers, where there is no list of ten links to rank in, and Neil Patel's own launch post says his team sees a 12 to 20% drop in click-through rates for classic organic results on keywords that trigger an AI Overview. That is the vendor's figure, not ours.
The tool tracks two different things, and the help center keeps them apart. A mention is your brand name appearing in an answer. A citation is an answer traceable to a specific page as its source. Citations are a subset of mentions, so your citation share will normally sit lower than your visibility. Both matter. The feature lives in the Projects section, next to Dashboard, Site Audit, SEO Opportunities, Rank Tracking and Competitor Analysis, and each project equals one brand. That means your AI tracking and your SEO tracking share a workspace, and classic and AI visibility trend side by side.
Broad topics pull in competitors that are not really yours. A local coffee shop should track specialty coffee shop, not coffee.
Which plans include it, and how much you get
Monthly and yearly plans include AI Search Visibility by default, with the same limits whichever way you pay, and the brand count matches each plan's project count [2]. Moving up a plan buys three things at once: more brands, more prompts per brand and faster refreshes. Only Enterprise adds a larger sample, with three responses per prompt instead of one:
| Plan | Price | Brands | Prompts per brand | Refresh | Responses per prompt |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | $29/mo | 1 | 10 | Monthly | 1 |
| Business | $49/mo | 7 | 15 | Every two weeks | 1 |
| Enterprise | $99/mo | 15 | 20 | Weekly | 3 |
Across all brands, that reaches 105 prompts on Business and 300 on Enterprise. Refreshes are counted from the date you created the project, so a project created on September 5 refreshes on October 5, September 19 or September 12 by plan. Individual is a monthly snapshot, not a monitor. With 20 prompts per brand and 3 responses each, an Enterprise brand gets 60 answers per weekly refresh, while an Individual brand gets 10 answers a month, so the Enterprise sample is 24 times larger per month, by our arithmetic. Small samples swing more.
Free accounts and Lifetime plans
Free users get something too. The newest help article, updated September 2026, says a free user gets "the basic version, so you can test the feature", capped like Individual at 10 prompts per brand. The home page FAQ still describes AI tracking as a paid feature. Trust the help article. Test it free. Lifetime plans include a basic version with limited prompts and monthly updates. To expand it, Lifetime owners buy a Lifetime AI Add-On matched to their tier, charged every month even though the plan itself is paid off. A Lifetime buyer who wants serious AI tracking is signing up for a monthly bill on top of the one-time payment.
Prompt add-ons
Extra prompts are sold separately, and the pages do not agree on the size. The pricing page sells an add-on of 5 AI prompts at $5 a month, while the help articles for monthly plans describe a +25 Prompts add-on that can be assigned to a project. Both pages are current, so ask which one you will get. AISV add-ons are always billed monthly. Lifetime owners first need the Lifetime AI Add-On and can then buy +5 Prompts add-ons for specific projects; both bill monthly, and canceling keeps an add-on active to the end of the billing cycle.
The home page and pricing page list different AI engines. Ask support which engines your plan tracks before you pay, and keep the reply.
Setting up a brand that measures the right market
Setup asks for four things: the website URL, the exact brand name, the language and location, and a topic or main keyword. Spell the brand name correctly, because the system searches answers for that exact string. The help center calls the topic the most important step. A topic defines the market you are measured in and the competitors you are compared against. Too broad, and the report fills with brands that do not really compete with you. The help center's example is a PDF tool using the topic software and getting antivirus products and video editors as rivals. A local coffee shop should track specialty coffee shop, not coffee. Narrow wins.
Topics also cost prompts, because each topic requires a minimum of 5. Individual, with 10 prompts, tracks up to 2 topics; Business, with 15, up to 3; Enterprise, with 20, up to 4. A business with three product lines needs Business to track each one separately, so plan topics before prompts. After you enter a topic, Ubersuggest shows a preview of the prompts it generated. The launch post treats this as a quality check: if the prompts feel too broad or misaligned, the topic was not specific enough. You can edit each prompt individually. Spend ten minutes here. It shapes every report.
Cities and brand aliases
You can select a specific city when creating a report, to see how your brand performs in localized AI searches. For a dentist or a plumber, that is the difference between a national answer and the one a neighbor actually gets, and it costs nothing extra. Brand aliases group variations of your name and website, so NP Digital, NPDigital and Neil Patel Digital count as one brand. You can add up to 20 brand aliases and 20 website aliases. They change grouping, not the prompts or the answers themselves. Set them on day one, before the first refresh, so your history is not split across spellings from the start.
Reading the score: visibility, rank and noise
The math is simple. Visibility is the share of analyzed AI answers that mention your brand: if 100 answers were analyzed and your brand appeared in 2, your visibility is 2%. Industry rank is your average placement among the brands detected. Both are computed over 30, 60 or 90 days. The two headline numbers work together. The launch post's example pairs 67.5% visibility with an industry rank of 1.19, meaning the brand is both present and leading. A high visibility with a poor rank means you are mentioned but listed after rivals. Watch both.
Expect noise. Ask the same question twice and you may get different brands, because language models vary their answers to sound natural rather than repetitive. That is why Ubersuggest measures frequency across many responses instead of checking one answer, and why your own ChatGPT test proves little. The Overview tab is the place to start each refresh. It shows brand visibility, industry rank, the number of answers analyzed, a top-brands chart, top prompts and a competitor trend line, and the launch post suggests using it to answer three questions in 60 seconds: where you stand, who you are up against and what everyone is talking about.
The Prompts, Brands and Sentiment tabs
The Prompts tab lists every tracked prompt with its platform, the exact question, your rank in the answer, your visibility score and the other brands mentioned. Click a prompt to read the full AI responses, or export the list to CSV. This is where strategy starts. The Brands tab shows every brand detected across your prompts, yours included. You can pin priority competitors, ignore irrelevant brands and manage aliases there. Ignoring noise keeps the charts honest. Pin your three real rivals first.
The Sentiment tab shows not just whether you are mentioned but how. It reports share of voice, a positive sentiment percentage with a trend, top positive and negative themes, and a sentiment score per prompt. Share of voice is your brand's mentions divided by all brand mentions in the analyzed answers, so 50 mentions out of 500 total gives 10%. Think of it as AI market share. The themes, such as fast support or great value on the positive side and limited features on the negative, are the phrases AI repeats about you. A prompt with a negative score is a content brief waiting to be written.
The Citation tab: where AI finds its sources
The Citation tab is the newest and the most actionable. It shows which pages AI tools pull from when they mention your brand or your competitors, in three views the help center describes as a funnel: Summary, Performance and Citation Opportunities [3]. Citation share is the percentage of tracked AI answers that cite your brand, shown as a single number with a trend. The help center's example reads 19 of 3,547 answers, which is about half a percent by our arithmetic. Low numbers are normal, because mentions run higher than citations. Citation data follows the same refresh schedule as the rest of the feature.
The Summary view counts external pages, such as news sites, blogs, forums and review sites, that mention your brand, and across how many domains. The Performance view isolates this earned visibility from your own site. If almost all your citations come from your own pages, your earned media is thin. Citation Opportunities then lists pages and domains that cite your competitors but not you, with a single top opportunity highlighted, and the help center advises treating each one as a lead rather than a guarantee. Outreach, a directory listing or a better page usually follows. This is your to-do list.
Which AI engines are tracked
Here the pages disagree, and it matters before you pay. The home page FAQ says ChatGPT and Gemini on paid plans, plus Google AI Overview on Enterprise, and states that "Perplexity, Claude, Grok and Copilot are not tracked engines today" [4]. Yet the hero banner on the same home page also lists Perplexity. The pricing page lists ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overview with no split by plan, and AI Prompt Ideas currently shows prompts generated by ChatGPT only. ChatGPT is the common ground. Before paying, email support, ask which engines your plan tracks and whether Google AI Overview is Enterprise-only, and keep the reply.
Credits, edits, exports and research tools
Only changes to keywords, industry or location count against the monthly edit limit; editing the brand name or website is unlimited. Deleting and recreating a brand still counts, and on Lifetime, edits are capped at four times the number of brands. Settle your topic before you burn edits. Exports work but stay manual. Prompt lists export to CSV, citation tables support export and copy, and AI Prompt Ideas exports all or selected prompts. Client reporting is possible, though there is no API to automate it.
For research before tracking, AI Prompt Ideas shows the prompts people ask AI around a keyword, with intent, brands mentioned and last update. Monthly plans show 25, 50 or 75 prompts per search, while Lifetime shows 10 unless the AI add-on is bought. AI Keyword Overview combines search volume, SEO Difficulty, prompt intent and search intent with an AI summary, which Lifetime users do not get. Refreshing SEO Difficulty uses 1 credit and refreshing AI prompt data uses 5, so Individual's 250 monthly credits cover 50 AI prompt refreshes, or 250 difficulty refreshes, or a mix.
Add your name and website variations before the first refresh, so your history is not split across spellings from the start.
A routine that turns data into citations
- Pick prompts that buy. Keep the high-intent questions a buyer asks just before choosing, such as best tools for a task or comparisons between named products, and drop generic how-to prompts, which rarely name brands.
- Find zero-visibility prompts. In the Prompts tab, look for prompts where your visibility is 0% but a direct competitor is named, then find the ones where you rank high at 100% visibility and protect them.
- Study the winning sources. Read the top cited pages for your topic in the Citation tab to see which format AI prefers in your niche. Copy the format, not the content.
- Build citable pages. Use short paragraphs, descriptive headings, a summary at the top, FAQ sections, tables and schema.
- Earn third-party mentions. Publish on platforms such as Medium or LinkedIn, join Reddit or Quora discussions, get listed on review hubs like G2 or Capterra, and start with the top domain on your Citation Opportunities list.
- Watch sentiment. If AI keeps describing you with an old weakness, publish a page that addresses it and earn a third-party mention of the fix.
- Re-measure on the next refresh. Compare visibility, industry rank, share of voice and citation share with the previous period, and keep a log of what you published in between.
These steps follow the vendor's own advice on making content easy for AI to reuse. Run them weekly on Enterprise and monthly on Individual, and be patient with the results. The help center warns that it can take several weeks before a brand starts appearing consistently, partly because many AI tools rely on data that may be months old, and partly because online presence, brand awareness and authority also matter. Think in quarters. One piece of marketing to discount: the launch post says Ubersuggest simulates thousands of prompts behind the scenes, while plans track 10 to 20 prompts per brand. Judge the tool by what your plan tracks, because that is what you pay for.
How it compares, and who should buy which plan
For a small business, Individual at $29 a month gives one brand, 10 prompts and a monthly refresh. Two topics of 5 prompts each, one city and a monthly check is a workable setup that shows whether AI answers mention you at all. For agencies, Enterprise at $99 a month tracks 15 brands with 20 prompts each, refreshed weekly with 3 responses per prompt, which is $6.60 per client brand per month. There is no white label and exports are manual, but the value is strong. If you work in chat, the MCP server exposes 3 AI brand visibility tools.
Rivals go further at higher prices. Ahrefs' Brand Radar runs 476M+ search-backed prompts through AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, but Ahrefs plans include only 5, 10 or 20 tracked AI prompts and Brand Radar is priced separately. SE Ranking Core tracks 100 AI prompts daily for $129 a month, so it wins on cadence while Ubersuggest wins on brands. Semrush's SEO plan includes AI search tracking, AI sentiment and custom prompts for $139 a month, against AI tracking for 7 brands on Ubersuggest Business at $49. Final verdict on AI tracking
Ubersuggest's AI Search Visibility is the cheapest serious AI brand monitor we cover: mentions, citations, sentiment and share of voice for $29 to $99 a month, with a free basic version to test first. Its samples are small, Individual refreshes only monthly, exports are manual and the engine list needs confirming in writing before you pay. For small brands and agencies watching many clients on a budget, it is a strong start. Pick a narrow topic, set your aliases on day one, and work the Citation Opportunities list.
